What do you think being an American is? Is it the freedom were given or the way our politics affect our everyday lives our is it knowing that we are safe and free because we have a good strong army to defend us. We all have different reasons to be an American, like some believe that having a religion and sharing it with your family is key. To be an American you are free to utilize religion to understand politics how it affects the way our country works. Being American means that you are part of one of the most diverse cultures in the world. America is one of very few countries in the world where it is near impossible to define the nationality by one race or religion. America is a melting pot of different religions and it is difficult to find anyone who does not have immigrant bloodlines from many different continents such as Europe and Africa. However, we do not use race or ancestry to determine what it means to be an American. This is not what defines us, but rather our unique political, economic and social values.…show more content…
In America, Protestants no longer make up a majority of U.S. adults in fact only 51% do (author name, website). Which isn't surprising to happen because people change religions all the time. Mostly everyone in America has a religion, only .6% don't know what their religion is(author name, website). In modern times most religions make people think or believe different things than other people. In the the bill of rights, it says “congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ”(53). This states that you can practice or have any religion without the government
