It sounds like the complaint of an adult: children these days are narrow-minded, just not as creative or social as they used to be because of the internet; but the American Psychiatric Association think that childrens digital journey makes them well-informed, happy, social and lets them keep up with technology. The 20th century is an era with many inventions that developed by humans to make life easier and, the internet is one of the most important inventions that completely changed the world; but there is a perception that internet is full of unnecessary websites and children will learn inappropriate informations from them and also there is a current debate surrounding the topic of cyber safety, too. But at this point the solution is not speaking ill of the internet or not giving permission to children to surf the internet. As a passionate blogger about communication, Nick …show more content…
Also they can remember what they have researched for much longer than that gained through traditional rote learning, so the internet can harm, but can also be a child's best learning device if it used in right ways. Sugata Mitra who is a professor of educational technology at Newcastle Univercity and the best lecturer of TED 2013, has made the Hole in the Wall experiment, where a computer was put in a wall in Delhi for children to use freely. His aim was to prove young people could be taught computers easily without formal training. He says ‘’ Computers do not do anything of the sort.’’ about the rumours that computers make children more isolated and antisocial and he advices not allow the children to access the internet alone in their own rooms with tiny devices. He thinks ,putting a big, high definitioned computer in the living room that everyone can look at and telling to children that they can do whatever they want, can solve all the problems about the wrong usage. (The
Because of this, it has become a borderline between parents and children on how much internet they should be using. To protect the health of a child's well-being and future parents need to encourage their kids to go out and do something or just talk about their day without having to look at their phone or computer.
In the article “ Let Kids Run Wild Online”, Boyd describes the situation in which many parents currently find themselves in at an age of a technology-soaked world. Many parents are constantly contemplating the pros and cons of letting kids run free on the internet or retaining their freedom from being involved in the world. However the various pros that outweigh the cons, such as developing reliable communication skills definitely suggest kid should be able to explore the internet without having many limitations. Many would say Boyd surely has a strong point within this article. Due to our world relying on technology, kids should definitely be allowed to navigate the internet at a level of high trust and support to an agreeable extent.
A reason I chose to be against parents limiting teens to the internet is because teens could learn valuable skills that they could later use in life. If a teen has limited access to the internet and social media, they most likely would not be on the same communication level as that of a teen with no restrictions to the internet. Stunting their performance for later life. Teens with no restrictions would better understand how the world works within the internet. Being able to access any type of information is the key to a successful life.
New technology is being created every day, and most want it. We notice how there are younger children, infants even, who start holding a phone, or wanting to be attached to a technological form just like the adults. This has a great affect to their growth, as they are wanting to figure out their answers to every little thought or question they have. And with that, they learn about how the internet has almost every response at the tip of your hand, and all one would need to do is simply ask the search engine what they want to know. Do not get this wrong, it most definitely can be resourceful, but for a child to expect to not put energy and thought into what they want to learn about, can eventually effect their critical thinking and thought
Timothy Snyder a Yale professor and author of “Why Laptops in Classrooms are Distracting America 's Future Workforce”, states his opinion on why laptops shouldn’t be allowed in the classroom. He feels that laptops aren’t being used for educational use, students are losing their focus and are being detached from humanity. Snyder has observed that when a professor walks into his or her lectures a class, instead of seeing an audience of students there’s nothing but backs of laptops. He also gives thanks to wireless internet for giving the student easy access to various internet outlets. Instead of being in tune with their studies, the class is surfing the internet for the latest gossip.
Digital Parenting “It is the uninvolved parent who has to resort to strictness.” -Andrea Bocelli. In this digital age, parents, instead of installing invasive software to monitor their children’s online activity, should develop open and trusting relationships with their children, as this is the best way to guard their kids against potential dangers and respect their kids privacy.
Sue Honoré, an independent learning consultant who has studied people who were born from 1982 to 2002 has that “while young people are "undoubtedly capable of long periods of concentration", those who spend a lot of time alone using technology tend to have less in the way of communication skills, self-awareness and emotional intelligence”. It has been proven that around 31 nations that students who used computers everyday in class had lower test scores in reading and math than students who don’t use them as much (Study: Students Who Use in School Doesn’t Help Test Scores). Though technology is amazing and has given so many people different opportunities they would’ve never had before it is resulting in a few bad habits for students. Casey Schools systems around the United States have begun to rely on technology to teach their students instead of teachers to teach them. According Michael Godsey, a veteran high-school English educator, even said and agreed with many people today that we are at the point in time where since we have the internet at our fingertips, there is really no need for teachers
Should Online Time be Limited for Teens? Teenagers are spending so many hours a week online, it is affecting us in multiple ways. It results in us getting less of things we need most. There can be deeper problems within us by using too much social media. Lastly we do not know how to manage our time we spent too much time on social media.
Students can use technology for research, play educational games, learn from different areas around the world, etc. Yes, little usage of technology does benefit a child’s success. Nevertheless, most students spends too much time on their devices and is most likely going to get addicted to it. Technology is fun, but it leads to procrastination and eventually failing in class. Even though technology very useful to use, relying on it would not be a good idea.
So it is lead to forgetting the basic way of learning. For example, when the teacher gives students homework they are turning to use of technological devices to search for the answers, rather than return to the main book. On the other hand, we can use the tablet devices in a good way to avoid all these defects, by observing teachers or the parents for their children and students and put some guidance of using tablets, such as placing the appropriate time. Also, the families can close some apps which are unwanted. (Peter, 1997,
The current study is the effects of exposure to technology on young children. As we become increasingly more reliant and absorbed in technology, it is no surprise that today’s children have become avid users as well (Hatch, 2011). Children at the age of three or four already have tablets, smart phones, and others; they could easily attain technologies and would even demand for one. As it makes easier for us, technology has both positive and negative impacts especially on young children. It comes with great opportunities but these opportunities likewise come with great risk
An article published by BBC News UK states that almost one out of five children have at some point experienced to be bullied online. These dangers are only som of many dangers youths may have to deal with in the world because of the technology. Despite of the dangers to brows the internet, the web can also be a great source for information and pleasure, but it is important to know the risks as well. Just because there are some dangerous things about the web.
Many critics may argue and say that technology in education is dangerous. It can waste a students’ time by getting him or her sidetracked by distractions they find online. However when students avoid technology in education, they have to spend long hours, days, maybe even weeks searching for certain information in various different books. Students that really want to learn will force discipline upon themselves. Even if students didn’t use technology, anything could easily distract them when studying.
That being said, the internet could be a very dangerous thing for children to discover. The internet has many uses and can teach us many great things but letting children use it can lead to bad things, such as changes in attitude, thought process and general health conditions. It could corrupt their minds in ways that may not be suitable for the youth. An example of negative access to the internet would have to violence.
Fear of a parent or guardian being cross is often more frightening than the uncomfortable experience they 've had online, but that is what some nasty people will count on. Talk to your children about what they are doing online and encourage them to use the SMART rules at all times. Consider placing the computer in a shared room of the house so its use does not become secretive and hidden. Make your online use a family
