These tickets can be one way or return tickets. One way tickets are valid for single journey while return tickets can be used at any time in a day as well as the next day. Main issue in this type is paper based tickets and the long queues increases the time for each transaction.

Smart Card (ATVM):
This is the most advanced method provided by Mumbai local train system. Here, a card is issued to every smart card customer. This card is unique and has a prepaid account in the ticketing database. The passenger has to use this card at one of the ATVM and choose the destination. The fare for the journey is automatically deducted from the prepaid account and the paper ticket is issued.
From the above methods of ticketing some of the major flaws are as security issues since if stolen the ticket can be used by anyone else, extensive use of paper and time consuming.

Design a prototype of NFC based Ticketing System that will be compatible with the non NFC enabled low end devices. The system combines the latest NFC Technology with GPRS
