Globalization has always been a broad topic for many scholars. Thus it is an extensive topic for most people. If there is one thing that can be associated with globalization, that would be the issue regarding development. Furthermore, globalization has always been related to developments – may it be economically or politically. For most authors such as Katja Aas (2013) and Hernandez & Patugalan (1999), globalization may refer to the economic development and technological advancements through the interaction of different countries. As long as the generation knows how to sail the sea, then they are open to the possibility of being attacked by pirates. Piracy has been defined by the “1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea as, ‘‘any criminal acts of violence, detention, or depredation committed for private ends by the crew or the passengers of a private ship or aircraft that is directed on the high seas against another ship, aircraft or against persons or property on board a ship or aircraft” (Lansing & Petersen, 2011, p. 508). The Somali piracy has started after their fall of government in the early 1990s. They have been known to use small ships with big engines to be able to get a grasp of their victims. They are more than pirates who steal. Thus they are groups who abduct people to ask for a ransom, and get the victims’ assets. The Somali pirates today find it easier to gain money from piracy especially that there are no concrete laws for their wrongdoings (Lansing & Petersen, 2011).
