It starts with just a thought or a feeling. Or maybe with a sentence spoken by someone else.
And then it starts to drag you down.
Into feeling sorry for yourself, worried or into thinking “what’s the point of taking any action at all?” as you walk around in a funk with your own personal rain cloud above your head.
Negativity that wells up inside of you or in the world around you can quickly become toxic and hold you back from living the life you want.
So in this week’s post I want to share 12 tips and habits that have helped me – and still help me – to prevent and to overcome my own negative thoughts but also the negativity that’s sometimes around me.
1. When you’re in what seems like a negative situation, find what’s good or helpful.
If you’ve had a setback, stumbled or failed

Replace the negativity in your surroundings.
What you let into your mind in your everyday life will have big effect on you. So start questioning what you allow in.
Ask yourself:
What are the top 3 sources of negativity in my life?
It could be people, websites, magazines, podcasts, music and so on.
Then ask yourself:
What can I do to spend less time with these 3 sources this week?
If you can’t find ways to do that right now for all three of them then take a smaller step and focus on doing that with just one of these sources.
Then spend the time you’ve freed up this week on more positive sources and people that are already in your life or that you want to explore and perhaps make a new part of it.
5. Stop making mountains out of molehills.
To stop a small negative thought from becoming a big monster in your mind confront it early. You can do that by for example using tip #3 in this article.
Or you can zoom out. Do that by asking yourself a question like:
Will this matter in 5 years? Or even 5 weeks?
This answer is likely in most cases that it won’t and that you were only starting to make a mountain out of a molehill (or out of plain air).
6. Let it out and talk it
By bringing one down, it creates a sad mood that will carry as one keeps looking at all of the negative things about themself. “The House On Mango Street”, a novella by Sandra Cisneros, expresses the way of being positive as one grows up. Esperanza looked low of herself and picked out the things she hates about herself. That makes her drown even deeper into a negative view. Soon she realizes that positivity brings happiness and positivity.
Every human being should have a hero. Many people view heroes as a fictional cartoon character. For younger kids, Spiderman is their hero. People don’t need super strength nor super speed to be a hero. A hero is someone who changes a person life for the better.
You must block out the negative things people say and force your way. Basically refraining from allowing “attacks of bad humor” to pierce one's psyche and rejecting the of granting unethical ideas acess to run rampant and corrupt your positive state of being.
If you are mad at someone else you can always just stop talking to them completely, but with yourself there is no way to get rid of the reminder. Your thoughts will never leave you alone unless you figure yourself out and accept what happened. The evidence I have to support my claim is from the book Night by Elie Weisel after Elie’s father died and Elie felt guilt for not responding to his last words. “His last word had been my name. He had called out to me and I had not answered.”
Inspiration "Failure happens all the time. It happens every day in practice. What makes it better is how you react to it. " Those words inspire me and many others.
but if you think about it it is very powerful “go and try”. These are very strong words to me and help me out when I read this in the book The Alchemist. It made me want to go and try. I can relate to this because even if things are not going my way and i just want to tap out i don’t i just go and try. It makes me wanna keep trying and keep going.
Life is Made of Choices Look at a tree. What does it look like? It has branches, and leaves and a trunk, right? Now, think about one’s life. It also has branches and leaves and a trunk.
Whenever you are thinking negative thoughts stop yourself and think positive thoughts. Play detective with yourself and figure out what is making you think those negative thoughts. Sixth, which is a common advice eat healthy food. At the end of the day it's the positive changes in your life that make you
It is believed the most influential model in treatment methods of depression has been Aaron Beck’s cognitive theory of depression (Beck 1976). Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is the most widely practised branch of psychotherapy. It was developed in the seventies by Professor Aaron T Beck. He concluded that in his treatment of depression, a combination of cognitive and behaviour therapies were more effective than psychoanalysis. By using clinical observation of depressed patients Beck was able to come to the conclusion that patients had a negative cognitive triad where they had a negative view of themselves, the world and their future.
After reading and learning more about the “negativity bias”, and that “Over and over again, psychologists find that the human mind reacts to bad things more quickly, strongly, and persistently than to equivalent good things. We can’t just will ourselves to see everything as good because our minds are wired to find and react to threats, violations, and setbacks” (Haidt 29). In order to counteract this negativity bias, I would attempt to conduct a conscious effort to just try to process what’s happening first before I made any judgment of myself. At this time, I had no knowledge of the negativity bias, but I did know the general concepts behind it, though a bare one at that. Beating myself over a test was not going to solve my issues, and so slowing down, analyzing my study habits leading up to the exam, and reviewing my time management, became a common process for me to go through when I did not perform up to expectations.
What difference might it make to you to alter negative thoughts? What percentage of your thoughts are largely unproductive or holding you back in some way? What feelings and bodily sensations do these thoughts evoke in you?
You close a door to open a new door. It’s the spark of the beginning of something better. You re-evaluate what you did and come back stronger. Failure makes us rethink, reconsider, and redefine our ways and strategies in achieving our goal. You are pushed to get out of your comfort zone and fight the problems in a way that you wouldn’t normally fight them.
Failures help people to think more clearly about the
No future? Lost hope? Can't see how things might improve? When we get into this negative state of mind, we lack energy even to do the easiest of things and nothing gives us much pleasure.
You 're not stupid, you are just pretending like your thoughts are real. 4. Be Mindful When you focus on the past, you relive it over and over again. You put yourself in that situation, hear the negative words or see the negative actions, and keep yourself in a state of negativity. But, when something distracts you, your focus moves away from the situation and you start to feel better.
