Leaders “need to surround themselves with a team that complements their own strengths, and compensates for the skills that they lack” (Gottlieb et al., 2012, p.43). I am currently using my leadership strengths with developing a new protocol and education for manual proning in the intensive care unit. I am strong in areas of research, sifting through information, and compiling it; however, I’m not great about speaking in public. I made sure to include a member of my team whom was comfortable with public speaking. By having a team comprised of different strengths, we will have a greater chance of sharing our vision on the importance of manual proning with the
Quotes such as “It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light” , “Change your thoughts and change your world” and “Believe you can and you’re halfway there” all inspire me and keep me in a positive frame of mind as well as the words and meanings from these quotes match up with many of my beliefs. There are also people who inspire me to do better such as my parents who have instilled many great values and belief systems in my life and also lead by such a great example. I also believe in honesty from other people as trust plays a big part in my life. I believe that having a healthy body leads to a healthy mind and this is why I enjoy sport , particularly cricket. I enjoy playing sport because I strongly believe that
There are four main core theories in Leadership; they are “Trait” theory, ‘Transformational’ theory, ‘Situational’ theory and ‘Behavioral’ theory. “Trait” theory refers to people who born with certain specific characteristics; Surgency, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, Adjustment and intellectance. People born with these characteristics can become a leader easier because they already have what basic requirements of a leader. The trait theory focused on analyzing mental, physical and social characteristic to gain more understanding of what is the characteristic or the combination of characteristics that are common among leaders. Transformational leadership refers to the leader moving the follower beyond immediate self-interests through idealized influence (charisma), inspiration, intellectual stimulation, or individualized consideration.
You are person in charge of you happiness. Identifying your values is considered to be the key to self-awareness. The values of the authentic leaders are formed from individual’s personal beliefs. This values and belief arise from parents, Influential people such as Teachers, bosses, friends, siblings, heroes, Religion, Traditions and customs ,Experiences School, University, books, media, etc. I have seen this values and principles in my dad who has been helping some people in our country with his monthly salary.
Besides that, it also needs to highlight the benefits of altruistic behavior (Liu, 2007). In the context of altruistic, altruistic employees put others’ importance forward with their own, go beyond the requirement of duty and associate with ethical achievement stated by (Zhang, Zheng, & Wei, 2009). Moreover, leaders tend to act more altruistically towards other employees because they can gain benefit because having a good reputation in the organization, (Bereczkei, Birkas, & Kerekes,
Leadership Style: My preferred leadership style is My preferred leadership style is to get the input from all of my team members and try to bring consensus to their ideas before I step in as a leader. I think this style gives the members a greater sense of ownership towards the group and task keeping them motivated .I also prefer accountability of the team that help to build trust and improve efficiency of the team. Under pressure, I revert to the following leadership style Under pressure I limit of input from my team members also sometimes have to be more authoritative in ones area of expertise but during this all process I make sure that no one’s self-esteem is hurt. When dealing directly with powerful or intimidating people, I Dealing with powerful I observe them and try to judge their need and wants. Directly contradicting or giving them advice / suggestion is not a good idea I often tend to sugarcoat words while dealing with them VIII.
Another goal I have is to be a great leader/ role model for not only my family, underclassmen, but my community. Being a leader now will help me show my family, underclassmen, and community that I work hard and that things don’t come easy. I am always willing to help out and make a difference in my community. Having set goals makes me want to work harder, and also making me realize the road will be hard. But with the work ethics I have that I’ve learned throughout high school, and will continue to learn in college will help me accomplish these much easier.
Will summarize these behavioral aspects briefly: Transformational/charismatic leadership: These type of leaders known as charismatic and affective. They are courageous and also encourage the people around to one vision, inspire and leave permanent marks. According to Avolio (1999, p.43), transformational leaders handle issues in a moralistic way and they represent the “ideal” in their attitudes and behavior. From Bass’s and Avolio’s perspective (1994, p.2) transformational leaders make people aware of the vision of the company and be the representatives of the mission. With their help, employees discover their own potential, feel able to to their best and find out new perspectives.
It seems like, even though you may seem like a workaholic (I can be too sometimes) you make time for your family and have a nice balance between personal and professional life. Every leader has to make critical decisions, which involves values, and these decisions can impact a company, This is the same for one’s personal life. I try to set the example and in and outside of the workplace, but my ethics and values will influence how I model the way in my professional and personal life regardless. We both chose authentic leadership. It’s simply being self-aware and genuine and putting the company first.
