Why are there so many teenagers that engaged themselves in pre-marital sex and then will regret the consequences after? Can they not able to control their hormones and emotions? Is it really true until now that “youth is the hope of our motherland?” We live in a society that there's nothing new about having a baby in a young age. The teenagers today is opposing on what Dr. Jose Rizal have said and continue to dissatisfy the expectation of our nation to the youth. Teenage pregnancy is among the most alarming issue today. It happens once a girl become a mother before she is an adult. The number of teens engaged to pre-marital sex has become larger in the past years. Sex education doesn’t aim to encourage student to involve their selves in sex but it is more on moral values rather than physical know-how. One of the main reason why teens are not aware what is true about sexuality is because of confusion. Teens do not know who they will believe in because of inaccurate and different opinions of news, media and most especially their friends. No other aspect of life reaches all children as the schools do. It is way better that children will be given knowledge from the teachers who are open-minded to give them reality based sexual education in related in happenings with their community. According to Boskey (2014) “The more kids know, the more likely they are to say no”. Sex education is very effective because they give specific activities that make their students realized that they should not let themselves steer in a situation that has high risk. Sex education requires right age to be taught, basically, teens has already matured mind about such things but nobody knows if their mind has right information. It is true that it has weaknesses but we should also not neglect the positive effect that it can brought to us for the betterment of our country. The main goal of this is to give better understanding for teens the possible outcome of being uneducated. I believe that is it both parents and schools job to teach the children about negative effects of teenage pregnancy. The parents are the one who will strongly influence their child and school can also a part of their knowledge by providing accurate information in encouraging to be responsible. According to Desiderius Erasmus, “The main hope of a nation lies in the proper education of its youth”. I believe in it. Every Filipino has a choice to be educated or not but it is way better to bring transformation and changes in our community. It is right to keep in everyone’s mind that knowledge is still a power.
