Firstly, the author claims that because of the many technological advances due to the "Space Race", a commitment to a manned mission to Mars will produce similar results. Although there are many similarities between committing to sending a man to the moon and to sending a man to mars, it false for the author to assume that there will be similar technological and humanitarian advances. The 1960's is a very different time period from today and as a result, it is unknown whether a manned mission to Mars will prove to be a worthy investment. Additionally, a large part of the "space Race" can be attributed to the competition between the USSR and the USA during the Cold War. The competition for becoming the leader in space technology was very fierce and was very politically driven, allowing for huge amounts of money to be invested in space technology.

This scientific study will analyze the first moon landing by NASA in the Apollo 11 space mission from July 16th to July 20th in 1969. The launching of the Apollo II program was the first designated landing of a space vehicle in the history of the human race. Under the leadership of Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin, the Apollo 11 mission defined one of the most important acheivements of early astronuatics in the Apollo space program. The initial stage of the mission involved being launched from the Kennedy Space Center by a Saturn V rocket. This rocket had three major parts involved in the space mission, which included a command module, service module, and lunar module that carried the three astronauts into space after the launch.

When Neil Armstrong first touched down on the moon in 1969, millions of people watched him take the first step and create history (Villard). Yet even as we’ve moved on from the moon landings and consider them as a pivotal point for mankind, “Forty years after U.S. astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon, many conspiracy theorists still insist the Apollo 11 moon landing was an elaborate hoax”(Than). The idea that our voyage to the moon was deliberately staged seems to resurface year after year. While the conspiracy theorists claim the moon landing was a hoax, creating a fake moon landing would have been more expensive and difficult than actually reaching the moon. The race to the moon began on October 5, 1957, when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik into orbit around the earth: “When the Soviet Union launched the satellite Sputnik, on October 4, 1957, the United States experienced a technological identity crisis”(Olson).

Although technology would reach great heights in a shorter period of time than ever before and break gender boundaries, the Space Race brought along many negatives such as environmental hazards, mechanical failures, and medical hazards. It is well known that throughout history women have been considered of lesser value than men in the space program. And the mirror that people had said that SCIENTISTS placed on the moon even though it was not a mirror it was a piece of metal that was placed a 19 degree angle the laser that scientists placed to reflect off of the moon to be sent back to earth to prove we had went to the moon. If we had gone to the moon, we would have brought metal to the moon to where it becomes uncontrollably then why did the metal not melt? And the other countries were tracking them, who’s to say that we didn’t somehow jam the signal or re-route the power? Later on in the moon launch, the U.S was making steady progress, The ship was shown rotating in space! How was the ship rotating in space if there is no air in space?
This paradox got me thinking about space travel, and if we will be able to visit other planets like Earth one day. I also started to think about the Drake equation, which I learned about in high school. The Drake equation looks at different things like the formation of stars and the probability of other life-sustaining planets, which in turn gives us a number of civilizations in the Milky Way Galaxy that we can detect electromagnetic emissions from (The Drake Equation). While I thought quite a bit about extraterrestrial life, I also thought about the fact we are stuck on Earth. The first thing that immediately comes to mind with that is how we are going to produce enough food.
The space craft was named The Eagle. After 3 days of voyage in the space The Eagle finally landed on the moon making its name in history. Neil Armstrong was the very first man to step on the moon; his very first lines were “That 's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”. This quote meant that even though it is just a one step taken by man but it has changed our lives and science forever. This was a huge success for American’s and if we look back many failures had occurred.
As it states in source B, we are fifty years into the space age, and yet space travel is just as expensive as it has always been. A lot of people anticipated that by now, scientists would have considered some kind of way to mend that complication. Again, it states in source B that one of the leading missions of NASA should have been to cut the cost of space travel. For example, they should not have spent half a billion on each space shuttle mission, but diverted some funds to make research and development their primary focus. Also, this illustrates the reality that NASA is not even utilizing the money they get wisely or efficiently, and that is one of the main causes science is not advancing: NASA not using their money sensibly.
Ever since America has decided stop going to the moon enthusiasm and support for space travel and NASA in general has decreased. In 2010, President Obama cut funding for several NASA missions including a mission that would have put Americans back on the moon by 2020. "I understand that some believe that we should attempt a return to the surface of the Moon first, as previously planned. But I just have to say pretty bluntly here: We’ve been there before," Obama said. This opinion is shared by many Americans, but what many Americans don 't realize are the amazing benefits of space travel.
I’m am going to tell you what people are going to do in the future. NASA is trying to make new developments to their research by exploring more of space. One way that they will do that is by trying to send people to Mars. Another place they want to send people is to an asteroid. The spaceship that is going to Mars has to be the best.
