"From powering the giant factories that keep our economy bustling to simple keeping our homes warm, energy is involved with almost every activity of life. Because energy is such an important aspect of our society, we are always trying to find cheaper and more efficient uses of it. It is no wonder that oil, coal, and natural gases have become our current main sources of energy. However, our dependance on these energy sources has lead to far-reaching drawbacks that range from political to environmental disadvantages, but it has recently been discovered that converting the US to 100% renewable energy is possible. This change in energy source dependance would result in many advantageous effects, and we must do our part to make this happen.

The article “California Leads a Quiet Revolution” by Beth Gardiner discusses about the California’s goal of increasing the utilization of renewable energy sources. With its modern technologies, politics, and its abundant sunshine, California has managed to overcome their energy crisis problems by utilizing renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. While the achievement is remarkable, difficulties have also appeared. The influx of solar and wind power has changed the pattern of electricity production, resulting in a mismatch between the said influx and the demand, while the storage devices that would solve said problem are deemed to be too expensive. Even though there are several problems, the addition of clean energy hasn’t resulted
Since Texas is one of the largest producers of wind and solar power, it should encourage the use of renewable energy. If some Texas coal mines and oil drilling were to swap to wind and solar power the overall renewable energy will increase. For instance, “the increase in wind power and the retirement of almost 6,000 megawatts of coal-fired generating capacity, coal-fired power plants supplied 18 percent of state generation in 2021, down from a 36 percent share in 2011.” (U.S. Energy Information Administration, Page 4).5 Due to coal power becoming an outdated energy source, wind power can make a large contribution to the modern world all while being cheaper
Energy Policy Act was brought forward in the House as House of Representatives (H.R.) 776 by Philip R. Sharp (D-IN) on February 4, 1991. It was passed in the House on May 27, 1992 and then the Senate on July 30, 1992. It was signed into law by President George H.W. Bush on October 24, 1992. The Energy Policy Act, effective October 24, 1992, (102nd Congress H.R.776.
The 2012, the election was primarily between candidates Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. They both were very different, and had and still have incredibly different viewpoints for this country and its future. As you know, Obama won, but they both had many thoughts and opinions about the country during their election. An example of that, is their views on energy. This essay will focus on their different and similar views on how to handle energy in the Unites States.
In Florida, electric utilities use natural gas as their main source of generating power. In 2015, Florida generated 156 Terawatt hours of electricity from natural gas (PSC). This vastly overwhelms other sources such as coal, at 47 TWh, nuclear, at 28 TWh, renewables, at 3 TWh, or oil, at a meager 592 GWh (PSC). This excessive use of natural gas puts the majority of Florida dependent on a resource that probably will not be around in a hundred years. The capacity of Florida’s renewable sources is rather disappointing.
In 2017 we’re still destroying the planet by using fossil fuel, creating more carbon dioxide, by burning oil, coal and gas. This causes a huge problem in today's world if we keep using the process of burning fossils as a form of electricity, gas etc.. we will end up destroying the planet we live on. By Rhode Island College creating a 5-10 year plan I believe we can be completely running on energy created by solar panels.
By reinforcing laws and increasing the number of professional government inspectors, any loopholes and acts of bribery can be eliminated. Although regulating the carbon dioxide levels is important, nonetheless, nothing can truly be achieved if production has to stay the same while demand increases; thus, to make this scheme effective, a greener, renewable energy source is needed. Alternative energy is always a subject that is almost completely ignored by the Republicans, but mentioned by a handful of Democrats. But so far any significant effort, such
The report anticipates with switching to other natural resources such as solar power, and their claimed efficiency improvements by the time we reach 2050, we would actually be out ahead of that $44 trillion. The cost of switching could be paid for in fuel savings from now to
Continuing on our current path condemns us to a future of more extreme weather, disease, famine, forced migration, and armed conflict. We need to show the American people what a clean energy revolution can do—create millions of new jobs, improve our infrastructure, environment, and public health, and ensure the society we leave to our children and grandchildren is stronger than the one we found. In solidarity, Shailene Woodley Board Member Our
There is a quote by President Barack Obama saying, “To truly transform our economy, protect our security, and save our planet from the ravages of climate change, we need to ultimately make clean, renewable energy the profitable kind of energy,” (“151 Inspiring Environmental Quotes”). He believes as many due that nonrenewable resources are harmful to all aspects of life. The energy we use now is harmful to our planet, to humans, and to animals. Scientists are taking steps to making the world a better place. They found sources that replenished naturally in a short amount of time and are less destructive in all aspects.
Using wind as a source of energy requires installation of intensive machines and capital. As such, the initial cost is very high as compared to the cost of using fossil fuels. However, the price is only high when installing the capital and thus the cost of producing energy using wind declines over time. Similarly, fossil fuel cost may seem low as compared to the initial expenses of installing capital for wind energy. This is not the case because the cost of fossil fuels is in most cases influenced by the state of global economy.
Scientists have found that renewable energy is a path towards the future for a clean and safe environment. Throughout all the studies and findings, there is a continuing fret whether people should be able to use a traditional way of energy or renewable energy, solar power. Solar energy is seen to be effective since there has progressively been more places that are benefiting from solar usage; however there are also some who disagree. Solar energy sources are derived from natural sources and is implicated throughout our daily lives. From the lights in the streets to the computers we use at home.
“Renewable energy resources that is naturally regenerated over a short time scale and derived directly from the sun, indirectly from the sun or from other natural movement and mechanisms of the environment. Renewable energy does not include energy resources derived from fossil fuels, waste product from fossil sources, or waste products from inorganic sources.” There are a few types of renewable energy sources. 1) Wind Energy 2) Biomass 3)
Should we pursue alternate energy sources? I feel that we should pursue alternate energy sources. It would stop pollution and global warming from happening so sudden, as we have it currently in our generation. Using renewable energy means that we will never run out of the energy we need.
Energy is simply the capacity to do work. Energy has become one of the necessities of our modern life. Energy can have many forms like heat, electrical, chemical, nuclear, light, etc. In the pre historic era fuel wood was the major sources of energy. Conventional energy sources are the ones that have been using so far to fulfill most f our daily energy requirements of cooking, lighting, transportation etc.
