Obviously schools should not convert to year round schooling because not only does it take away precious family bonding time, it also increases stress for
This can only mean that some other pertinent action must be taken to reduce the number of students receiving remedial education and give America a national advantage. One of the solutions or differences considered has been year-round schooling, or options similar for summer learning, provided by all public schools. With the introduction of year-round school into society, people have begun to wonder where exactly the traditional school calendar originated from. Some argue that the 10-month school calendar was adopted due an agrarian society, while others debate that it was enforced to keep up with 20th
Year Round School By: Bryan Madden It has recently come to my attention that people want to know if the school schedule should be year round. Imagine your child having a two week break and forgetting all of the information that learned the week before. Picture your kid getting the same work every six weeks.
Year-Round Schooling A study from the 2011-2012 school year concluded that there were up to as many as 3,700 schools that operated on the year round schedule (Year-Round Schooling). Currently, a majority of schools run on the typical schedule where there is three months worth of summer vacation. With this schedule, there is a major gap where information is typically lost, possibly resulting in possible degrading academics. Year long schooling should be implemented in schools as it allows for students to retain a larger portion of information leading to improved academics on this set schedule. With year round schooling, students are less likely to forget information, where the dropout rate reduces significantly.
“The National Summer Learning Association cites decades of research that shows that it can take anywhere from 8 to 13 weeks at the beginning of every school year for teachers to get their students back up to speed and ready to learn the new grades material” (Lynch). However, there is also evidence that supports how year round school is makes no difference in learning. The same article posted, “A study released in 2007 by The Ohio State University found that there are really no differences in learning between students who attend school year round and those who are on a traditional schedule” (Lynch). A lot of people say that year round school can help with education because it is year round
with 90 days equals out to 30 days off from school with year round school ( Dennis). To add on, Schools require 175 days to 180 days of school for regular school. But with year round school kids would be going to school for the same amount of time but with their time spread out. Schools with year round school have nine week quarters just like school have. For example, some schools in Michigan have year round school.
“The very thought of sending kids to school year-round makes some parents cringe” (Scholastic). In year-round school, schools continue to operate a hundred and eighty days per year, but they stretch out the hundred and eighty days over the entire year and take shorter breaks between each term. Year-round schools have become increasingly common, both as an academic improvement strategy and as a solution to student and teacher burnout. Student and teacher burnout is when the student or teacher is highly stressed or completely exhausted. Year-round schooling is not necessarily the same as expanded learning time.
The kids could be so bored out their mind knowing that the other kids at a regular school are having more fun than they are. So should we have year round school? I disagree 100%, all the way. We should have summers that are spent with friends and family. Not spent stuck in a class
Since at least the 1970’s, the topic of year-round schooling has been debated by many people. This new system is spreading across the nation fast, in fact, in 2011-12, there were about 3700 schools that operated on the year-round schedule. (Zubrzycki 1,3). Like any other controversial topic, there are both benefits and drawbacks to the year-round schooling system. For instance, a definite benefit would be that, “...with one group of students always on vacation, a school that was built for 750 students can serve as many as 1000.
These are some of the disadvantages and reasons why year round schools should not be allowed. A traditional school calendar usually starts September to June. Some of the breaks are Christmas break, Spring break, Easter vacation and Thanksgiving break. Year round schools it starts in August and it breaks in September they have 9 weeks on
Year-round school usually has 45 days of school and then a 15 day break. But there is no summer break like traditional school. This leaves teachers with a little over two weeks to prepare for next school year. If teachers have to change their decorations or update their curriculum, they have barely enough or not enough time to prepare for a new year. This would put teachers in a hard situation and would not give them time to be with their family.
"Year-round education is a change in the school year calendar so the long summer vacation of the traditional school year is reduced to some degree," explains Charles Ballinger, executive director of the National Association for Year-Round Education (NAYRE). Among 34 nations around the globe, the United States has one of the most limited school years. As the customary school year in America is 180 days. South Korean youngsters burn through 220 days complete in the classroom while Finland has a 190 day school year. Both instructive frameworks rank higher than the United States in math and sciences.
Year round school benefit is for a child not to have a lapse in learning or remembering what they’ve learned. That’s when the parents or guardians need’s to step in to continue educational learning. Teachers alone can’t be responsible for the education others need to play their part. Just because summer vacation has started doesn’t mean learning should have stopped. Since year round schooling isn’t what’s normal adjusting could be difficult.
