Prosecuting Romeo
I, Jackson L. Weiss as Prosecutor of Summit County, Ohio, do charge Romeo Montague with voluntary manslaughter for the death of Tybalt Capulet and involuntary manslaughter for the death of Count Paris.
The death of Tybalt Capulet was quite the tragedy as he was such a young man and had so much to live for. Romeo Montague will step up and take responsibility for the actions he has caused. He will be charged with voluntary manslaughter. Romeo will be charged with this due to the fact that he did in fact murder Tybalt from the influence of sudden passion and sudden rage due to the death of Mercutio earlier in the day. Eye witness Benvolio Montague gave an unbiased description of the sudden events happening at that time. He stated,

He took Count Paris’ life just two days after he murder Tybalt Capulet. The circumstances of this murder differs from the first case. Romeo Montague will receive the homicide charge of Involuntary manslaughter for the death of Count Paris. The evidence shows that Romeo killed Count Paris out of self defense during a sword duel near the Capulet vault. Romeo struck Count dead, but had no real motive for the murder. At least this is what Balthazar, a friend of Romeo, stated since he witness the murder as he was watching behind a tree since Romeo told him to run off once they got to the graveyard. Balthazar states that Count Paris was the one who aggravated the fight. He stated that Count said, “I refuse your appeal, and I arrest you as a criminal here!” Then Romeo said, “ Will you provoke me? Then have at it, boy!” The Balthazar stated, “They quarreled, and Romeo would not go down without a fight. So Count drew his weapon and started to attack Romeo. Romeo, out of self defense, had no choice but to draw his sword and defend himself from Count trying to take his life”. Therefore, from evidence of Count Paris’ death and a key eye witness, Romeo Montague will be charged with involuntary manslaughter. I have evaluated this case very carefully and decided this homicide charge is appropriate due to the fact that Romeo was acting out of self defense, to protect his life, rather than let Count Paris take his
Prosecuting Romeo Andrew Dornack, as prosecutor of Summit County, Ohio, do charge Romeo Montague with voluntary manslaughter for the death of Tybalt Capulet and Count Paris. Tybalt Capulet was murdered by Romeo Montague after a swordfight derived from the death of Mercutio, who was Romeo’s best friend. Romeo had a sudden rage of anger after Mercutio was killed and Romeo then went on to fight Tybalt and killed him. Voluntary manslaughter says that a person shall not murder anyone “while under the sudden passion or in a sudden fit of rage.” This matches exactly what Romeo did.
The opinion that will be given is that Romeo is the one who is fully responsible for the death of his friend Mercutio and enemy Tybalt. Romeo could have answered Tybalt’s letter when it was first sent to him. Not avoiding responsibility and what people tell you is important when at the beginning Benvolio and Mercutio see Romeo and he runs past them. When Romeo was coming back from being with
Romeo is to blame for Mercutio’s death in Act III of Romeo and Juliet. First of all, Romeo did not fight back when Tybalt insulted him. Tybalt calls Romeo a villain and other various names, but Romeo responds by saying (paraphrase), “I love you more than you believe for we are family, even if you are oblivious to this fact. I love the name Capulet as much as I love my own name”(3.1.72-75). When Romeo says this, Tybalt becomes confused and enraged.
First, Juliet was suppose to get married to Paris. She didn’t want to so she drank the potion that knocks her out for 48 hours. This can be found in Act 4 scene 1. Second, Juliet drank the potion which made her look dead and Romeo killed himself. Those are my reasons why Paris is responsible for the death of the couple.
Character Defense: Romeo We perceive that Romeo is innocent due to his apparent love for Tybalt and his clear disesteem to the brawl unfolding. He wanted to advent the violence thrust upon him by his love (Tybalt). He cared too much to fight him but when a good life-long friend, Mercutio, is murdered in front of his very eyes he is shaken to the core. He did this while not in the correct state of mind, cleary in a haze of sorrow and guilt not yet fully comprehending the effects of his actions. His gentle altercation with Tybalt defines his love for his friends and family.
There are numerous clues and small details that point to Lord Capulet and Friar Laurence being accountable for the Romeo and Juliet’s death. Lord Capulet forced his daughter into marrying Paris, though she strongly dissents the idea. After she finally “agrees”, He is so thrilled that he moves up the wedding, ruining the plan. Friar Laurence is guilty due to him coming up with a cumbersome plan and leaving Juliet alone, to save himself from the watch. In Conclusion, Lord Capulet and Friar Laurence are responsible for the loss of Romeo and
Death, tragedy, misery, love, and unity, all of these words describe the story of Romeo and Juliet, but it all revolved around Tybalt making his first terrible mistake. In the play Romeo and Juliet written by Shakespeare, the short story is that two young lovers secretly get married, people murder in anger, the two lovers get separated, and then end their lives in a tragic death because of no communication. But, like I said, this all revolves around a mistake Tybalt makes because of the feud between the Capulet (Juliet’s family) and the Montague (Romeo’s family). Tybalt is the character most to blame for the tragic events in Romeo and Juliet because, he killed Mercutio, which lead to Romeo 's banishment, which then leads to the suicides of Romeo
Insiders say Montague’s had attended the Capulet party Saturday eve, and Tybalt was out for revenge on the group of boys. “There lies the man, slain by young Romeo, That slew thy kinsman, brave Mercutio ” Says Benvolio, witness to fight and cousin to the aforementioned Romeo. Witnesses
The first event that would make Lord Capulet responsible is, Juliet was put in a very bad position because of Lord Capulets threats. She decided that she had to fake her death to get out of the marriage with Paris. This would benefit Juliet greatly because she would get out of town and she could live her own life with Romeo. “Hold, then. Go home, be merry, give consent to marry Paris.
When all the Montagues were dead he would start killing randomly until being caught and killed. The quote “Romeo, the love I bear thee can afford. No better team than this: thou art a villain.” , says Tybalt. Now what Tybalt is telling us is that Romeo has killed before but has only been sentenced to be a villain and not to death. So not only has he killed before he has bribed the judge of his real sentence.
Tybalt challenges Romeo to a duel and he declines the challenge and insists that he won’t fight Tybalt. Mercutio is angered by Romeo’s “cowardice” and takes on Tybalt himself. Romeo wants Mercutio to stop fighting Tybalt so he decides that it’d be a good idea to block his arm in mid combat and Tybalt stabs Mercutio from under Romeo’s arm and Mercutio falls dead after rambling about plagues and a pun or two. Romeo doesn’t realize that it is his own fault that Mercutio died after Mercutio even blamed his wound on him. Romeo lets his emotions decide his actions and becomes enraged and ignores that Tybalt is now his family and fails to see that he was the reason Mercutio was killed.
He murdered Tybalt after a feud between him and Mercutio, where Tybalt killed Mercutio. Romeo, speaking of Tybalt, says “He’s alive and victorious, and Mercutio’s dead? Enough with mercy and consideration. It’s time for rage to guide my actions.
Tybalt has been slain, and Romeo banished, but who is to blame? Tybalt layed dead but by his own fault. Tybalt had fought to his last breath, and while Romeo had killed Tybalt it was primarily Tybalts fault and Tybalt probably deserved what he got. There are many reasons why it was his fault. Tybalt had a hatred towards peace and was known for starting fights, Tybalt had killed Mercutio, Romeo's best friend, and finally, Tybalt and Romeo were fighting and one of the two were bound to die.
Although Lord Capulet and Juliet were not the ones to physically kill Paris, they, along with Romeo, are the reason for the death of Paris.
This sentence is a reasonable sentence for the murder under the circumstances as conveyed through “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet”, Romeo deserved to be punished for the crime of murdering Tybalt though Tybalt has had a known history of aggressiveness and want for Montague blood. It is common knowledge that if someone has committed murder that they should be punished, what type of leader would the Prince be if he were to allow a murderer to walk the streets of Verona. In Act 1 Scene the Prince explicitly states, “If ever you disturb our streets again, Your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace.” Benvolio makes Romeo aware of this statement, Romeo knew before he began the battle with Tybalt that if he were to fight a Capulet that he would be severely punished. Moreover, Romeo was the instigator of the battle between Tybalt and him as communicated in Act 3 Scene 1 “That late gavest me, for Mercutio’s soul.
