Psychological factors affect the learning of pronunciation in ways that are not so true of studying vocabulary or grammar. This paper looks at how the improper use of prosody in English may distort word sounds in the sentence context so much that those are unrecognizable from the sounds of a word, when said in isolation. Indeed, in lessons in spoken English, the teacher should emphasize the prosodic aspects of phonology, morphology, and syntax. Additionally, it provides ways that the English Language Teacher might use props and prompts in the classroom to better demonstrate the porosity of the English language to English Language Learners. …show more content…
There are two aspects of these signals: melody and rhythm. Therefore, a combination of the two aspects is called prosody. The term prosody means rhythm alone, while the term intonation refers to a combination of both melody and rhythm. However, for the purpose of teaching pronunciation, the teacher needs to understand that both of these aspects of spoken English are vitally linked and worked together. Moreover, understanding of English rhythm involves more than the ability to identify and count syllables. English rhythm helps to produce and hear the word stress

By contrast, in English, we have to pronounce exactly every sound at the end, and one English word may have one, two, three, four, or even five syllables.
