The hematological investigations showed leucocytosis (count of 15,700) and cerebrospinal fluid examination was consistent with the picture of bacterial meningitis. Intravenous antibiotics vancomycin and meropenem were started after verifying renal status. The shunt was initially exteriorized followed by removal under anesthesia. When the patient became afebrile a left sided medium pressure VP shunt was inserted. In the postoperative period in the neurointensive care unit (NICU) the patient became drowsy and had to be intubated and put on mechanical ventilator support.
Sodium picosulphate: An effective laxative as colorectal cleanser in colonoscopy preparation Introduction Colonoscopy is a powerful diagnostic tool against several conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, colonic polyps, and colon cancers Bhandari P, Inadequate bowel cleansing is associated with numerous negative consequences. ( Park JB) The important barriers for the failure of colonoscopy include patient refusal to undergo colonoscopy and inadequate bowel cleansing. In the both the cases, patients unwillingness or intolerance to the preparation are important causes for the failure (Love J) . Patients prefer regimen that has better taste, low side-effects, and having manageable fluid intake (Bhandari P)). Sodium picosulphate may be preferred
Use of dexmedetomidine in postoperative period: infusion can be continued in extubated and spontaneously breathing patients. The ongoing sedation and sympatholytic effect is beneficial in reducing postoperative myocardial ischemic events in high risk patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. (90) 6. Use of dexmedetomidine in paediatric age group:(91) addition of dexmedetomidine 2µg/kg body weight to bupivacaine for caudal analgesia promotes analgesia after anaesthetic recovery without increasing the incidence of side
Background: Adjuncts to local anaesthetics for brachial plexus block may enhance the quality and duration of analgesia. Midazolam, a water-soluble benzodiazepine, is known to produce antinociception and enhance the effect of local anaesthetics when given epidurally or intrathecally. Aim: Study was to assess the effect of Midazolam added to brachial plexus block by supraclavicular approach. Materials and Methods: A prospective, randomized, single blinded study was conducted on 100 ASA Grade I or II adult patients undergoing upper limb surgeries under supraclavicular brachial plexus block. Patients were randomly divided into two groups.
Preparations made from milk thistle have been approved by the German Commission E to treat mild gastrointestinal dysfunctions22,24. 7-Colon/Small Intestine. Kim and coworkers (1994) documented that silymarin and silybin are inhibitors of β-glucuronidases of intestinal bacteria, human feces, and rat microsomal fraction. Silymarin significantly inhibited the number of 1,2- dimethylhydrazine (DMH)-induced colon tumors in male rats12. 8-Sken :- Results from various experiments suggest that silymarin could be a promising chemopreventive and safe phytochemical that could be tested against skin cancer in humans, as well as a potential ingredient for sunscreens for protection against UV radiation.22 The people who suffer form psoriasis, Milk Thistle also helps to balance certain cellular chemicals in the skin which determine the rate in which skin cells are reproduced.
