Kent State Massacre Devastates Community "For the past ten years I have devoted myself to presenting people with the facts. What happened here was unforgivable, and the facts prove this."(“The). This was a quote was said by Alan Canfora who was a survivor. Alan was shot on May 4th, 1970 at the Kent State massacre("The). The Ohio National Guard came to Kent State University because the students there were holding an anti-war rally(PUBLISHED).

On Sunday March 6, 1988 the Board of Trustees at Gallaudet University released the next president via press release. This vote presidency was important because it was the first time there had been 2 deaf candidates. By this time the school had been around for 124 years and never had a deaf president. When the sole hearing candidate was chosen by the board the deaf community was outraged and confused. Since the Board decided not to announce the decision in front of the student body at the campus, many deaf people decide to march from Florida Avenue to the Mayflower Hotel, a few blocks away.

King traveled around the country to give inspirational speeches on nonviolent protests and civil rights while meeting activists, religious figures and other important people around the world. The town of Birmingham was a town for boycotts, sit-ins, and also marches to protest against segregation. Martin participated in the protest, but it led him to be arrested by the police on the 12th of April 1963. This arrest led to Martin Luther King Jr. organizing the March on Washington, a march held on August 28 the same year, promoting African Americans to have freedom and rights. Using the same example of “The Great Gatsby” being banned, every young adult misses out on learning about the culture of the roaring twenties. There are other books that could teach high school students about the culture of that time period, but none can do it quite as good as “The Great Gatsby”. It is such a classic, that even if you haven't read the book or watched the movie yourself, you still know what it is, kinda like the Titanic. During the roaring twenties it was all jazz, parties and wealth. It was a good time to be alive.

This led to protests and riots, including the one at Kent State University, where four young lives were lost. The Kent State shooting occurred on the 4th of May in 1970. There was a previous rally three days prior, and coming to a close, they decided to plan the next for the 4th. It was to be held at noon and once advisors had caught news they made it clear that this was to be prohibited.

On December 10th, a 47-year-old man was arrested after driving onto Arkansas State University campus with propane tanks that were “ready to blow,” and “a shotgun strapped to his back.” Brad Kenneth Bartelt was reported to the police Wednesday after posting on Facebook that “he was homicidal and suicidal.” However, nothing was done until he drove onto the campus at 1:30 PM the next day but within thirty minutes, police officers surrounded and arrested him. John Miller, a student at ASU, was taking a test when Bartelt drove onto the campus. In a phone interview he said that he could see the “green pickup drive onto the lawn in front of the union.”

In 1984 Republican National convention, Gregory Lee Johnson was among the people who participated in the political demonstration to protest the policies of President Ronald Reagan administration along with some of the others Dallas-based corporations. During the march through the city’s streets, Johnson burned an American flag while the other protesters was chanting for him. Nobody was injured at the protest or burning of the flag, although several eye witnesses were upset by Mr. Johnson behave, which resulted him being arrested, charged, and convicted for violating Texas statute that prevented the desecration of venerated object, such as the American flag, and State court of appeals affirmed. Nevertheless, Johnson appealed his case and argued that his actions were symbolic speech which was protected under the First Amendment; after his appeal, Texas Criminal Court of Appeals reversed it and decided that the State can’t punish Johnson for burning the flag in these circumstances. Guns need to be controlled. From the mass shooting in Newton, Connecticut that killed twenty-seven people, twenty of whom were faultless children at Sandy Hook Elementary, to nine people gunned down during Bible study in Charleston, South Carolina at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, guns have proven to be an extreme political problem. In 2011, former Arizona congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords became a victim of gun violence, along with eighteen other guiltless people. She was shot at point blank range in the head while campaigning outside of a Safeway franchise in suburban Tucson, Arizona. Lucky enough to have a second chance at life, Giffords found the motivation to tackle the law of purchasing and owning a gun.

About 10,000 people assembled at the State House in Columbia, South Carolina, to join in "Stand with God, Pro-Family Rally," with Republican presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Rick Perry along with several US senators and pastors from across the state. The hot topics at the rally were religion and the issues of abortion and same-sex marriage, with participation of people from neighboring states of North Carolina and Georgia. "Our nation is in crisis right now. But I want to tell you there is a spirit of revival that is sweeping South Carolina, that is sweeping the country.

There are many ways you can show your voice now and protest, though many people, like WBC do still picket with signs and screaming and hate. Each side of this movement has their own protests and riots, a well known riot in the 60’s was the Stonewall Riots.

All over the world, people express their culture and their way of life in the form of music. In the early nineteen-hundreds America was beginning to form their own genre of music, which would come to be known as country music. When we think of country music, we often think of hillbillies, cowboys, a pair of boots and blue jeans, but it's much more than that. Country music is more than just songs; it's become a way of life in America. Country music was formed out of the genre of Appalachian folk music in the southern United States.
