Week Two Reflective Journal
Psa 139:14(KJV) “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Our God is an awesome God for He has masterfully created His masterpiece when He created man.
Who would know better how our bodies are to function than the one who made them. When God designed our bodies, He designed them and formed our inward parts (Psalm 139:13) with its’ own personal biological clock. “Our bodies roughly synchronize with the 24-hour cycle of day and night by an internal biological clock called the circadian rhythm” (Myers, 2014, p. 93). This clock when undisturbed regulates many vital psychological processes but a very important function of this clock is to tell us when our bodies need to sleep and rest. When our bodies do not get the proper amount of sleep and rest the other body parts do not function well and could have some catastrophic consequences such as increased risk of cardiovascular problems, neurological problems,

After reading the text, I got the understanding that these two concepts have some things in common and that is they both deal with our senses and perception. “Form perception, motion perception, and perceptual constancies illuminate how we organize our visual experiences. Perceptual organization applies to our other senses, too” (p. 241).
God has also provided His people with an internal voice, His voice which speaks through His Spirit, the Holy Spirit who dwells in us to give us discernment to recognize when our bodies are talking to us and informing us of what it needs, are you listening? Tick Tock the clock is ticking and now it is time for me to get some sleep. Good
After reading the Journals of both Robert Robe and Mary Stuart Bailey I have a better understanding of daily life, common struggles, and attitudes during the 1850’s while traveling westward. Robert Robe’s journal begins in May of 1851 and continues into June. Mary’s Journal starts April 13, 1852 with the last entry on November 8th. These journals clearly highlight the stresses that were developed during there travels. The traveler’s attitudes changed circumstantially as the uncertainty of their future unfolded, depending on the day they could be admiring god’s beauty, determined on surviving, or mourning the loss of their previous life, family, and home (Text 386, 387).
For this week I have been using Zotero to organize and look up useful academic journals to use for my three new citations. Combined with Zotero, I have also been using Ebsco to help find some interesting topics related to the setting that I wanted to focus my points on. Zotero’s feature of allowing me to save the PDF and bookmarking useful articles was really convenient and saved me a lot of time. Zotero’s feature of creating bibliographies also saved me quite some time, as it allowed me to go straight to the annotations for my readings. Everything went smoothly and efficiently with the combination of Ebsco and Zotero together.
“I have learned that the Father relentlessly works to reshape his blood-brought children into the likeness of his son...our task, however, is not merely to endure suffering, but to embrace it, find God on it and draw closer to him through it. Simply put, ‘There is no remedy for this darkness but to sink in it.” A quote from Bruce Demarest, found in his book Seasons of the Soul, discusses the three stages of spiritual development, orientation, disorientation, and reorientation. Disorientation is the stage where trials and sufferings are faced, but most importantly, a stage where we use our pains and sufferings to help us grow. Murray Decker explains disorientation as a stage of “lostness and dryness.”
If asked how is a person’s lifetime spent, numerous people would think of the times devoted to family. They may reflect of the years of gaining an education, or attempting to find a soulmate to spend the rest of their life with. However, we rarely consider the time we spend preparing our body to continue living our lives. Oddly enough, the time we allow our body to recuperate, through sleeping, is where we spend more than a third of our lifetime; this is equivalent to approximately twenty five years cycling through the stages of sleep, yet at some point in time we all have been deprived of some essential hours of shut eye (Altevogt and Harvey). Therefore, people, in today’s society, often complain of being constantly tired, yet many do not understand the stages of sleep and common problems that accompany it.
The biological approach clarifies the behaviour in terms of biological processes within the body and it focuses on genes, chemicals like hormones and the brain. The only approaches in psychology that examine behaviours, feelings, and thoughts from a biological and physical point of view. Nevertheless, explains the aggressive behaviour in terms of hormones testosterone. The other one is sleep and it is a repair state of consciousness during which the body less active and less responsive to the outside world. Sleep is part of circadian rhythm which happens once in 24 hours.
One day you wake up glad because you got an extra hour of sleep, and just six months later you wake up sad because you lost an hour of sleep. Twice a year, every year, we face a change in time construction and in our daily schedule, causing a dramatic shift in our regular routines. Daylight Savings is a controversial topic that has caused great uprising regarding its usefulness. Despite some of its benefits, the Daylight Savings time change is unnecessary due to its direct impact on society’s well being and it’s ineffective purpose.
Everybody goes through struggles in their life, yet most of them get through the struggles by knowing there is a greater purpose; that they are going to one day be in bliss and happiness because of the hardships they had to endure. God gives people peace and solace when they are going to die. God gives all people a greater purpose for our existence on this earth. God gives people the peace of mind that everything happens for a reason in our life, it’s all apart of the journey. God gives people the strength to go through the struggles knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
For my mindful reflection journal this week I decided to work on my communication with my wife. My wife and I have been together for six year now. One of the things we do best is talking. Though we are great at talking, we have lost our way when it communications to positive communication. We tend to have little arguments, though normal, we noticed that we bicker more than we would like to.
Plus, the loss of sleep reduces concentration and brain processing speed, meaning tasks take longer to complete. It’s estimated that every time the clocks are changed, the US economy loses almost half a billion dollars! That lost hour of sleep does more though, as there are well documented health issues that arise due to a lack of sleep. The two most
Lack of sleep increases students chances of depression and suicidal thoughts. It can also potentially weaken the immune system. The school day is hard enough on a child and not getting enough sleep does not make it any better. School
Three points that I would like to reflect upon in this critical reflective journal is the current collaboration with Hawthorne and the project we have been asked to carried out. Another aspect would be about my expectations that I had with collaborating with Hawthorne and how I feel about it as of right now. Our collaboration with Hawthorne this year is to introduce the MCIS Career Inventory to an advance writing class. The objective is to see whether the students in this advanced writing class would be able to navigate and complete the inventory with our help guiding them through.
it seems there are less hours in a day as life goes on but more to-do on the list than what is scratched out. In Heschel’s "A Palace In Time", obeying the Lord’s commandment to rest on the Sabbath is imperative for a good life. In a manner of speaking, our bodies are much like machines in the way that they fulfill our orders; we can compel our mind to fight off the sleepiness, to solve mental math, and to obey our commands to move our fingers across a keyboard. Similarly to machines, use does cause wear and tear but one of the biggest difference is that humans require internal rest which is why keeping the Sabbath holy contributes to the good life, “But an opportunity to mend our tattered lives; to collect rather than to dissipate time.” This is a time to catch up with friends and resolve our inner problems.
For the reasons above, you should do these activities in order to gain fulfillment and feel better about yourself. Subpoint: Having a great sleep can be important to your beneficial health. Sleep is involved in healing and also help repairing your heart and blood vessels. Not sleeping as much can cause an increase of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and strokes Conclusion Restate Thesis & Review points: Having a stabilized mindset and physically getting ready can surely help with going to sleep at a faster rate.
Many people are uncomfortable about keeping a spiritual journal. Often, fear, timidity, lack of discipline and a belief that one 's voice is not worth being heard will discourage the spiritual journaler. Fear, timidity, discipline and voice are the four Spiritual Journaling Busters. This article will break down these four Journaling Busters and open you up to the possibility that spiritual journaling could be for you. Spiritual Journaling Buster number one is fear.
THE IMPORTANCE OF SLEEPING WELL Hello everybody, I’m going to speak about the most time-consuming activity in our lives: sleeping. As a matter of fact, we usually don’t pay much attention to the quality of our sleep, in spite of influencing a big deal our performance during the day, our health and well-being, in other words, our quality of life. That’s the reason why I would like to introduce some interesting material to understand better this important though disregarded necessity.
