I think the objectives set forth in Healthy People are a step in the right direction. They set goals that may not always be reached 100% but they are realistic and attainable. They always show improvement in areas that need work. However, there are some discrepancies that definitely stop the progress that Healthy People has set forth. Market and social justice principles make it difficult for health care delivery to be distributed equally among the nation. Social problems are issues that also increase the difficulty for health care delivery to be effective, such as poverty or homelessness. There are also set backs that occur do to economical issues the nation is having. A recent issue was the recession in the late 2000 's that caused many Americans

I agree. In some cases, knowing that you have a mutation and will be affected with the disease could be very emotional for an individual. One never knows how they will respond to the result and pretesting counseling may not fully prepare the individual for the result. One question that has been raised is should genetic counseling be allowed for diseases that are not treatable? It is thought that if an individual knows they will develop a condition that has no treatment it could cause psychological harm, stigmatization, and possible discrimination.
"Healthy People 2020 (HP2020) provides a comprehensive set of 10-year, national goals and objectives for improving the health of all Americans" ("Healthy People 2020", 2015, p. 2). It monitors and evaluates whether the goals of improving health indicators are met or getting worse. Community health problems should be analyzed in order to comprehend and effectively resolve the problem ("Analyzing Community Problems", 2015). Levels of prevention are phases wherein healthcare professionals can intervene in the health of individuals and communities. Primary prevention involves seeking ways to prevent a person from having a disease they can be prone to.
Christmas is not a happy time for everyone. Some individuals actually find that their mood suffers during the festive period as a result of the cold weather, a lack of family and friends or the winter depression seasonal affective disorder (SAD). The good news is that if any of those symptoms sound familiar I have 4 festive tips that can help improve your mood this year. 1) EAT SOME MOOD BOOSTING FOODS: The foods you eat can have a major effect on your mood. Consuming large amounts of poor quality foods can lead to your blood glucose levels surging and falling rapidly which results in feelings of tiredness and moodiness.
My week 6 in Public Health was filled with unprofessionalism and full of sadness how public school has become. I was at Mt. Gleason again this week with Nurse Archer and Nurse Ana. We had to organize health immunization cards that has not been organized for a while. While organizing the health immunization cards, we noticed that the health immunization cards that were in the filing cabinets were mostly students that transitioned to Middle School or have transferred to another schools. It was very disorganized.
They not only focus on disease prevention they also focus on emotional, physical, mental and social functioning of each individual. I personally feel that Healthy People 2020 influences health by supporting their prevention and promotion areas with evidence based practice information. This alone supports their statistics and how well the nation is doing based off the information they have provided to the world. •
“in conflict theory, all social arrangements… have a political and economic bases and consequences” (p.10, Clarke) It is evident that health care is no stranger to this concept of class structures and the inequalities that are result from it. The government makes all the major decisions and implements the rules in regulations when it comes to health care. While individuals with low socio-economic statuses feel abandoned and suffer from the
Health Care in the US is arguably available to all who seek it but not everybody has had the same experience and treatment when walking through the doors of a healthcare facility. In many cases, people are discriminated against due to their gender, race/ethnicity, age, and income and are often provided with minimal service. Differences between groups in health coverage, access to care, and quality of care is majorly affected through these disparities. Income is a major factor and can cause groups of people to experience higher burden of illness, injury, disability, or mortality relative to another group.
For both the uninsured group and those who are eligible for government assistance because of their low economic position, access to health is limited by the number of private providers willing to treat them. In many cases private providers are linked to particular private health insurance companies and won 't accept patients outside their network. These people must then rely on the overburdened public health system for care, and as such usually only seek treatment in emergencies. The public health system, while filled with competent staff, is nevertheless restricted by its funding and can therefore not always provide all these patients with the best quality of care. The inequality in health care access is a continuing issue in America and as such it is important for future consumers and workers on the Foothill College campus to have a thorough understanding of the issue so they can move to improve the problem in the
I strongly value my health and believe that health is our greatest form of wealth. When one lives a healthy lifestyle, it means more opportunities to explore the world, build families, achieving anything the heart desires and conquering personal goals. The behavior change philosophy fits my personal philosophy of health education the most because it involves goal setting, behavioral contracts and self-monitoring to help foster the modification of an unhealthy habit. The behavior change philosophy is very important because change is a process, not an event. Self-efficacy and motivation are key factors in successful behavior changes.
A social problem is an aspect of life that people are concerned about and would like to change. It consists of two components: the objective requirement that an aspect of society can be measured. . The objective condition in the case of abortion entails the question whether abortions are legal, who obtains an abortion, and under what circumstances is an abortion secured (Henslin, 2008). The second component is the subjective condition; This is the concern that a significant number of people have regarding the objective condition. In the case of abortion, the personal condition involves distress that a pregnant woman must carry the unwanted baby to full term (Henslin, 2008).
The lack of physical activity, and poor diet habits can lead to more problems and money that they do not have to fix the problem. If the person lives in a poor community the education about health is poor. 4. What are some reasons for disparities in access to health care?
Social Problems in Societies Social problems are issues which are considered to affect majority if not all members of a society either directly or indirectly. Whenever people come to live together in a social setting, conflict arises from their differences in opinions regarding political issues, religion, ethnic issues, cultural practices and other health and hygiene issues. In such a situation, we can say a society inevitably develops social problems. The various social issues present today vary from society to society, and as such, we cannot say that all societies face similar social issues.
