Core to transactional analysis is the ideas that each and every human have a tripartite frame of mind or ego-state that they display in interpersonal relationship. The three ego-state described is that of the parent ego-state, the adult ego-state, and the child ego-state. The parent ego-state represent all thoughts, behaviors, and feelings associated with parental characteristic (Tilney, 1998, p. 86). The adult ego-state refers to all thoughts, behaviors, and feelings associated with that of an adult, it is the rational part of the self, whereupon reason and logic is at the forefront. The adult ego-state is often explained as dealing with the 'here and now' reality (Tilney, 1998, p. 2). The child ego-state, similar to the parent ego-state, consist of all thoughts, behaviors, and feelings associated with that of childhood (Tilney, 1998, p. …show more content…
Allow us here to examine the psychological dimension between two individual who are engaged in a humorous conversation. There are a multiplicty number of possible outcomes that can result from the interaction, we will here limit it to the three most common outcomes. The first outcome described person A telling a joke and person B do not laugh but frown upon person B. Common scenerio of which this occur is in relationships involving employer and an employee(s) or that of any two unequal ranking individual. The individual of superior ranking, here person B, commonly is in the parent ego-state while person A is in the child ego-state. The playfulness nature of the joke send by person A is frown upon by person B as a parent would frown upon a child. The second outcome described person A telling a joke and B respond to person B very mechanically and does not laught. Common scenerio of which this occur is in relationship between a client/customer and it's providers. Again, person A is in the child ego-state and person B is in the adult ego-state. Here person B, due to the mechanical nature of his/her work remains professional in the interaction; almost analogous to person A speaking with a machine. The third outcome describes person A telling a joke and person B laughs and the conversation continue. Common

Authors can use Humor in many different situations, it can be used to give the audience a quick scoff, promote change, or even for dramatic effect. But in this essay, the authors use humor to make it easier to deal with life’s challenges. To start, in the text “Brothers”, By Jon Scieszka, the author tells a story about a family road trip that he went on in his childhood, a road trip where everything went poorly and everyone was in group puke horror. But, throughout the text, the author explains how he and his brothers used humor to get through it all. “Tom burped a bit of Stuckey lunch back on Gregg.
A real life example that is envisioned when I think about humour in a tragic circumstance is when a person begins to laugh before they
When you laugh at someone you essentially think you are better then the person you are laughing at. A: Why do you believe that so many people laughed at this vulgar comedy? H:
This is an example of changing the situation. B. Based on Critchley’s article humor functions as anti-depressant by allowing the cognitive relation to, oneself and the world. “Humor has the same formal structure as depression but it’s an anti-depressant”. It’s a way to suppress depression by being able to find positive functions for the superego.
Every day, people are forced to face many challenges, physically, mentally, and socially. Life of Pi by Yann Martel is a key example of the challenges a character must face in order to survive in the vast ocean with no food, water, or company. Yann Martel’s masterful use of tone creates a character whose struggles for survival are not only physical, but also psychological. In Life of Pi, the author, Yann Martel uses humorous and reflective tones to further describe the main character, Pi’s primary method of coping with the challenges he faces throughout his life.
The use of humor to alleviate the dull reality of life is used in Ken Kesey’s novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which supports the idea that one's own humor creates happiness in others and relieves stress much like in the critically acclaimed Christmas classic, Elf, starring Will Ferrell. Humor is used by Ken Kesey very prominently especially when the patients do not seem to have the ability to laugh at anything nor find anything funny. The patients live a very dull life in which they repeat their monotonous cycle of life in the ward. They no longer have known what it is like in the norm because of the Big Nurse wears them down with the oppressive nature of the Combine.
In the novel laughter play a major role by representing a type of freedom and an escape from nurse Ratched’s restrictions. Laughter proves a vital role in helping the patients deal with their problems. Not only does
Laughter has the power to unite people, as Bakhtin writes, “Laughter liberates not only from external censorship but first of all from the great interior censor” (Bakhtin 94). Laughter acts as a powerful force that alleviates pain by destroying repression and turning fear into grotesque ridiculousness while also uniting people to see the positives in negative situations. Moreover, it applies to social and political issues as a satire of political figures, which acts as a weapon against the government. For example, many people use satire to alleviate the fear and anger that Donald Trump is the current US President by ridiculing and criticizing his ideas and mindset. Thus, laughter liberate us by freeing us from
Sometimes, it can also take the form of self-derision. It is one of the oldest themes on the basis of which humor is analyzed. According to this theory, a person can be found comical is therefore considered to be inferior, if he or she is inadequate according to a set of agreed-upon group or societal criteria. Both Plato and Aristotle wrote about humor as a form of mockery or disdain, usually self-directed, which should be kept at a minimum (Janco, 1984). The expression of humor as superiority can either serve the mechanism of control or a form of

One of the most valuable aspects of personality is humor – we value one’s sense of humor and make friends often based on finding certain things funny. But how and why do we consider things to be funny at all? Human beings have strived to uncover fundamental truths about human nature for centuries – even millennia – but humor itself is still yet to be pinpointed. Henri Bergson is only one of many who has attempted this feat, and his essay Laughter: an essay on the meaning of the comic from 1911 breaks down comedy into what he believes to be its essential forms and origins. While Bergson makes many valid points, Charlie Chaplin’s film Modern Times that was brought to screens only twenty years later seems to contradict many of Bergson’s theories, while Bergson seems to contradict even himself over the course of his essay.
(p. 70). I agree with Berger that humor is a human trait, but I do not think they are born with it. I will focus on when humans start using humor as a form of distraction that Berger describes and why Berger feels they do this. Berger’s thinking that humor can only be linked to humans is interesting to me and not a concept I have ever thought of. There are videos of animals doing
Psychoanalytic reading of The Yellow Wallpaper In Charlotte Gilman's short story The Yellow Wallpaper, the speaker seems to be suffering from postpartum depression or "temporary nervous depression." (648). Accordingly, her husband makes the decision for her and takes her to a country house because he believes that it would be good for her. The narrator is not allowed to take care of her own child as she was imprisoned in her room where she should do nothing but "rest."
