The Greek physician
Hippocrates explained the abnormal behavior for mental disorders, and he was the first to do so. He said mental disorders occurred of natural causes and could be treated. He also belief that the
brain was the central intellectual factor in our activities and that mental disorders was a result of
brain pathology. He influenced the first theory of abnormal psychology
The first comprehensive theory of abnormal psychology was Freud. He developed the
Psychodynamic theory, he basically was interested in hypnosis and the treatment of hysteria.
This theory open the doors are other developments in new theories in abnormal psychology and

Many stories from the biblical times have described illnesses in the past. Such as one called
animism, here people believed in the power of the spirit. According to history, mental afflictions

The road was long but it is here. I can now be proud
and raise my children not in shame but equal like a man and woman can as one.
Conclusion
Abnormal psychology is an area that is fascination and still today is an area that has
challenges in discovering and classifying what is normal and abnormal in behavior. Culture,
society, environment and religion all have factors that are important to classifying behavior.
Scientists and Psychologist continue to apply new information that is discovered to explain
dysfunction and discomfort in abnormal behavior. The studies and theories are needed to assist
people in clarifying and diagnoses their problems in a reasonable and accurate understanding.
Also, the biggest mild stone was accepting homosexuality as not an abnormal behavior but a
behavior that is equal to everyone. This gave the community that is different a voice and a way
to live without shame. This was a step in the right direction to normal
Another limitation of deviation from social norms is that deviance is related to context and degree. For example, someone who was wearing almost nothing in a school would be classed as abnormal, although if they were wearing the same but at a beach, nobody would think them to be abnormal. As there isn’t a clear line between abnormal deviation and harmless eccentricity, deviation from social norms cannot offer a complete definition of abnormality, as it fails to recognise the importance of context and
The theories that cover psychoanalytic is still too basic or general and in desperate need for further development. In other words, enhancing the theory can benefit the readers to understand more about the mindset and reasoning of how psychopaths roam the earth causing destruction and mischief to the
What is different between "normal" and "abnormal”? as those words apply to the physically and emotional states and behaviors of human beings. Some people might do some terrible thing, such as murdering, sleeping next to the corpse, and other action that normal people are not generally doing in society. These people seem to like to be abnormal, this is due to the ability that most humans have distinguished right from wrong. many times, these “abnormal" people repeat their actions, not only because they might enjoy their actions, but also mental problem block them understanding how horrible and extreme their actions really are.
The similarities between biological, social and psychological approaches of abnormality are that the biological model is connected to the cognitive approach of the psychological, this is because brain injury can cause abnormality, for example, a concussion can cause the disruption of the balance of neurotransmitters causing abnormality namely high levels of dopamine may cause schizophrenia. A brain injury from an accident can cause the victim to suffer psychological and emotional trauma which can activate abnormalities such as anxiety or depression. Both the social and behavioural focuses on the context of the situation. The differences between the biological, social and psychological approaches are that the biological ignores
In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s psychology was becoming more and more popular, but there was a lack of science and the methods behind it. There was a lot of false accusations and diagnostics before the proper tests were conducted. One example is hysteria, once thought to be a female only thing
“The prevailing views of early recorded history posited that mental … psychopathology began to emerge.¨(Jutras) Historically people believed that mental illnesses were caused by supernatural forces, which is the reason for the archaic methods of treatment, often very brutal. During the European Middle Ages most people with mental illnesses were forced into and confined in asylums. More modern and up to date theories gained popularity in the late 19th to the early 20th centuries. This resulted in a more
Moral Therapy The world of normalcy could become a reality for the mentally ill, "the mad", would be made possible with the birth of Phillipe Pinel, April 20, 1745 - October 25, 1826. The pure thought that through the ideologies of one - the treatment of thousands and ultimately millions could be made possible. It was Pinel 's "moral treatment or "traitement moral" that would open the door for the humane therapies for the mentally ill and thus labeling him as one of the founders of psychiatry. Prior to Pinel those with mental disorders were believed to demonically possessed.
Who was the American philosopher who authored a textbook in 1890 for the emerging discipline of psychology? D. “William James was a legendary teacher-writer who authored an important 1890 psychology text”.(P. 5) 6. The personality theorist, Sigmund Freud, was an Austrian B. According to online sources such as Guide Top Psychology and The Atlantic, Sigmund Freud was a physician and professor of medicine, developed his theories about psychoanalysis while studying hysteria and compulsion neurosis.
Psychoanalytic Theoretical Views Name of theory: Psychoanalytic Theory Founder of the theory: Sigmund Freud View of human nature (include innate capacities/capabilities and motivational constructs): Sigmund Freud viewed human nature as being deterministic and influenced by both sexual energy and instincts (Corey, 2017). He further identifies that soon after birth instincts drive our desire and force internal motivations into the reality of which we live. Although unconscious desires are the driving forces of existence in the beginning, it does not remain the only force through out our lives. We begin to develop into a conscious being as we recognize the world around us. Our external world introduces the conscious mind by showing us moral code, paternal expectations, and presumptions of societal ideology.
Freud developed these techniques to uncover the unconscious roots of neurosis and other mental anomalies, but the question I posed was did any of his findings hold any validity. From a lot of Freud 's writings, Freud believed that a lot of mental issues
Also what is termed abnormal depends on the overall conditions of the society
Psychotherapy has its origins in psychoanalysis, also known as the “talking cure” that was first developed by Sigmund Freud.7 The term psychodynamic refers to the “forces of the mind that are in motion”.8 Freud coined the term psychodynamic when he realised that the mind was an ever-changing system, roiling with constantly moving energised elements. Most of the activities of these mental elements occurred out of the awareness, which Freud described as unconscious. Freud postulated that these unconscious mental activities could affect one’s conscious thoughts, feelings and behaviour.8 Psychodynamic psychotherapy is,
Ancient Greek culture has been influential on the field of psychology. Many ancient Greek scientists were influencers on the field of medicine, physiology, as well as psychology. The word Psyche in Greek means “soul” (Devlin, 2011). The ancient Greeks believed that there was a mortal woman who was so beautiful the son of a Greek god fell in love with her and her name was “Psyche” (Devlin, 2011). The origin of the story of psyche stems from the ancient Greeks, however, the true story is unclear.
Sigmund Freud. He introduced the psychodynamic theory. It stated that human behavior is motivated by one’s aggressive and sexual drives and that childhood experiences form our personality. The clear weakness in this theory, however, is the fact that it lacks any scientific credibility. You cannot test one’s mind processes with the scientific method.
However, in this essay, I will only deal with the three prominent theories, which are, Psychoanalytic theory, Behavioral theory and Humanistic theory. The first part of this essay will evaluate the Psychoanalytic theory by Sigmund Freud. Psychoanalytical theory defined and evaluated the development and structure of personality. Freud believed human nature is mostly easily determinable.
