I am currently applying for the College of Arts and Science at Boston University, and one of the main reasons is that I was to be majoring in psychology. Psychology introduces me into the world to study human behavior and mental processes. It is known that the Directed Study Opportunity is granted to study and research about treatment of anxiety disorder among adults and children. I was first introduced in to a research program in Cornell University during the summer, which studies human behavior and compliance. I was drawn to the program and thus I started to look
When I think about attending the University of Florida (UF), I automatically think about the amazing opportunities I will have to perform research within Psychology. I view Psychology as not just studying the mind and behavior of a person, but being able to make connections with one another in a positive way. Psychology is taking the smallest idea and being able to turn it into something that helps another person. During my time at UF, I want to be able to do extensive research on how to help people who suffer from mentally ill diseases such as Huntington’s, research ways

Following this experience I continued my interest by applying to Virginia Tech’s Human Development program. During my three years at Virginia Tech my interest in mental health has grown with educational experiences. The Human Development courses have given me the knowledge to understand individuals and families throughout the lifetime.

What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field — such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities — and what you have gained from your involvement. My intended major is Environmental Studies at the University of California Santa Barbara. While thinking back to when my interest in the subject was sparked, all I could think about was growing up in Oregon, where my dad and I lived on a two-acre piece of property in a very small town outside of Portland.
eek 5 The book mentions that the purpose of a biopsychosocial assessment is to help identify supports or interventions an older adult could benefit from and identify those areas which the older person may be at risk (p. 83). After the assessment is completed, then services need to be provided to help support the older person, so they can function as independently as possible. In my time working in the nursing home setting, I have spent a great deal of time completing these assessments and focusing on the areas which a person needs assistance.

Psychology was one of my earliest career interests dating back to high school. I would eventually follow my interest and pursue a college degree in this line of study where I obtained a 4.0 in all the courses that were in my major. I also was heavily involved in PSI Chi (The International Honors Society of Psychology) where I served as our chapter’s Vice President. It was due to this passion and success that I was offered a position as an undergraduate Teaching Assistant at SIU. I believe my success and experiences in psychology would allow me to be knowledgeable about the course content and the ability to be seen as a credible source of information to my
Psychology is defined as “the scientific study of the mind and behavior” (Introduction to Psychology, 2015). Psychology provides an overview of biology and behavior, sensation and perception, learning, memory, intelligence, language, motivation, emotion, abnormal psychology, and therapy (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 1). Because psychology allows for a better understanding of how the mind and body work, this knowledge can be beneficial for any field of study or career. The theoretical and practical understanding of the basics of psychology can help with decision-making, critical thinking, stress management, time management, better understanding of others, improving communication, and even achieving goals and objectives, all components that allow someone to be more successful throughout their life. Throughout this course I hope to gain a greater understanding of historical and theoretical perspectives of human behavior and development (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 2).
