As a result of this, more and more people would be finding ways to make changes to their identities by separating themselves from the negative impacts of the community and just creating their own positive identity that can benefit not only themselves but inspires people in the long run. The main concern would have to be areas that are heavily influenced by many social problems that are out and about such as drugs, crime and violence, homelessness and even prostitution. Moreover, in some cases, there have been people who became victims of these social problems either because they choose that life or maybe they were influenced by someone to get into that lifestyle that lead them down that path into which they know nothing but the negatives. However, the journey on an individual's identity begins at home with parents who are willing to steer their children in the right path and explain to them what’s right and what’s wrong. The reason for this is because children are very

Thus, the characteristics of homeless populations are complicated by the numerous needs that need systematic assessment and thoughtful addressing to enhance the likelihood of successful outcomes (Viron, Bello, Freudenreich, & Shtasel, 2014). Importantly, it is evident that mental illness and addiction that can be attributed to substance abuse are common phenomena among the homeless populations. LITERATURE REVIEW Media and minorities: Media and minorities have always had a nuanced and often complex relationship. Public perceptions affect not only minorities but also the societies in which they exist; societies that have a stake in promoting equality, social integration and cohesion (Bleich et al, Cottle 2000, devroe). In today’s world where media is ubiquitous, not only as an institution but also as a practical means of gathering, assembling and processing knowledge, the media can do much to augment or curtail public perception of situations, phenomena or people. In other words, the media plays an important role in the construction of public perception of minority identities. The media are a key site within which politics of cultural
History has been punctuated here and there by certain calls for action that allude to particular groups and their interests. These calls for action, which are conceptually called social movements, range from the seemingly vague and domestic to the radical and highly political. Social movements have covered everything from the personal, such as support groups for individuals dealing with addiction, to political movements that upset balances of power in a society, such as the Arab Spring. These points of dissent are due to the fact that politics is not just a discourse on power. More often than not, politics is also about taking into account the interests and demands of many individuals and groups in society and deciding how resources will be

By evaluating the original goals and the results or outcomes of a program or a policy, it is useful in assisting and influencing the government in future policy making and planning. There has been quite a lot of different organization involve in policy initiation and formulation within the social welfare sector. For example, Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) is recognized by the government to be the representative in coordinating NGOs’ policy feedback to the government, Hong Kong Social Workers Association (SWA) and Hong Kong Social Workers General Union (SWGU) conduct quite a lot of policy critique. Evaluations of social workers’ empirical observations such as numbers, specific case examples and cost-benefit ratios is what policymakers exactly need to make sound policymaking decisions (McInnis-Dittrich, 1994, P.115). Continuing with the example of Professor Nelson Chow’s research report with recommendations on retirement protection commissioned by the government, Professor Chow researched and evaluated the current policies on old-age poverty and retirement protection systems in other countries and regions.

Putnam, who has thoroughly researched the social capital of the American society, notes that civil society is interlaced with horizontal networks and associated norms and values, that have far-reaching social consequences for both, the people living in that society and for the society itself, by creating individual and collective benefits. Voluntary associations that Putnam studied have a particularly important role in this process because active involvement of local people leads them to make direct contacts with each other, helps the community achieve its goals, and encourages the acquisition of broad range of skills, including interpersonal trust. In the book, Bowling Alone Putnam argues that social capital has significant political consequences
There are a lot of problems that come with homelessness, such as finding a way to fund this project, how are the homeless going to be helped in the meantime, and how are they going to be assisted after they find decent homes. Although there are multiple issues and questions that may arise about how the nation can assist the homeless, there are also answers that can be put into place. The first problem that the government may run into is how
