Uniform: Worth it or not?
Imagine a group of students were wearing for clothes for an awareness, but the group of students got detention because of not wearing “appropriate clothes” to school. Over the past few years and even now, parents still having this question considered: “ Should public school required uniforms?” To begin, school uniforms should not be a requirement because it took away students’ freedom to express themselves. The first constitution stated that “ all individuals have the right to express themselves freely.” and a study by researchers at Arizona state university found that “ students from school with uniforms reported higher self-perception scores than students from school with uniform policies.’ The first constitution is right because even though students can express their styles through other ways like make -up, hairstyles, and accessories, but what if the school policy said that wearing make -up or accessories is not allowed in school, then their hairstyles does not express of the student’s style that much. Others, who agree with school should require uniforms may say “ School uniforms should be required because it help

Children’s Commision on Poverty (UK) claims that “ 95% of parents on low incomes reported difficulties in meeting school- related costs.” The quote clearly states that it will cost more on school, and low incomes parents have their children study at public school for a free education but if the school then add uniforms, the parents now have to pay extra for it. People might disagree and say that: “ Normal clothes can cost up to one million dollars.” It is true that normal clothes can cost up to more than one million dollars, but that is for families had an average or above incomes. Speaking about low incomes families, the children may have hand-down clothes and their parents could buy new clothes if needed for special
I agree with these students and I wouldn’t want to be forced to wear a uniform either. To begin, parents don’t want to pay the extra money for a school uniform. It’s extremely expensive and the student 's parents have to buy even more appliances on top of that. Let’s weigh the pros and cons of school uniforms states, “The cost of uniforms is prohibitive, especially when a family includes more than one school-aged child.”
To begin with, students shouldn’t wear uniforms because it violates a student’s right for freedom. For example, quoting, “https://www.greatschools.org/gk/articles/school-uniforms/” by Marian Wilde, “School uniforms violate a student’s right to freedom of expression...makes a target for bullies from other schools, are difficult to enforce in public schools, and are a financial burden for poor families.” This means that some families aren’t able to afford the school uniforms. Which, leads to many students getting bullied for not having uniforms like their
In 2007, “87.9% of the students were opposed to uniforms at MD public school” (Wharton). There is a debate between parents, students and teachers about school uniforms being enforced in public schools since the 2000’s. Many people say that school uniforms shouldn’t be worn in public schools, while others disagree. Despite the debate, there shouldn't be a need to wear school uniforms. School Uniforms should not be worn because they violate a humans right of freedom of expression.
Many student argue that a forced manner of dress is a infaction of their First Amendment rights (“School”). Meaning that the rules restrict them from doing what the first amendment says they can do. Other people argue that dress codes send the wrong messages to students. They declare that forcing students to wear similar clothing tells students that they cannot be trusted to make their own decisions. In the United States, parents spend
Envision waking up every morning to put on the same outfit and walk out the door, stress free. People would not have to worry about what fits, or what is fashionable at the time. Schools would not have to worry about inappropriate clothing but at the same time, that clothing may be a way for a student to express himself. Many schools view uniforms as a solution to several problems, but many schools view uniforms as a lack of self expression. School uniforms should continue, even though children may not get to express themselves, because they prohibit violence, provide cheaper lifestyles, and promote better education.
There are three major positions on this issue. The first position is that student dress codes are necessary to produce a safe and productive environment for students, which will facilitate high achievement. The second position goes even farther, and says that dress codes should mandate uniforms for all students, claiming that the uniforms will make students focus more while removing concerns about fashion differences that would otherwise harm their self-esteem. Last, there is the position that school uniforms are unnecessary, and that they pose an unfair cost burden to families and restrict students' constitutional rights to free expression. Each side has some evidence in its favor, but ultimately the lack of hard statistics on costs and grading effects from dress codes make it apparent that more research is necessary to figure out what position has the best support for
Imagine you are sitting in a classroom filled with polite and poised children dressed all the same in their school uniforms. You feel peaceful and chaos free. School uniforms are required in a lot of public schools throughout all of america, but some aren't. This issue is affecting plenty of citizens throughout the united states. School uniforms should be required in all public schools across the united states because, school uniforms reduce the amount of distraction in the classroom, school uniforms create a positive, no violence culture and climate on campus, and lastly school uniforms end the competition between the rich and poor, weather it being about who has the nicest or most new up to date clothes.
School uniforms give students a sense of unity because they feel like they can fit in without fear of being too different. Making a dress uniform mandatory will decrease sexual harassment, create more interesting humans and make schools safer. A school uniform would make schools safer. The idea of wearing uniforms to schools was originally introduced to reduce violence in schools in 1996 by the Department of Education (Underwood, 1).
In the essay, “Schoolwear Association Research Reveals Uniforms Can Be a Powerful Tool,” the printwear and promotion point to a study done by the Schoolwear Association disagrees and points out that having school uniforms will lower bullying caused by where they are from and economic class. They that,”83% of teachers thought "a good school uniform... could prevent bullying based on appearance or economic background. "(Schoolwear Association ). What this means is having school uniforms can lower bullying. While there is some truth to this argument, it is wrong because only teachers think of this and not parents who are the ones who have to pay for uniforms.
Many students that know uniforms will be beneficially, but don’t agree with school uniforms will continue to disagree with implementing them. It can be easily agreed that school uniforms may take away their self-expression in school, but what matters more in school is the way of learning. It can also be agreed that many students do not accept the self-expression of their classmates and make fun of them. Students, parents, and school administration should be able to recognize the benefits that school uniforms come with.
In the article of Dr. Alan Hilfer from 2009, “Disadvantages of a School Uniform Policy” stated that “We need free thinking children of to become thinkers of tomorrow, not droned who will continue making the mistakes of previous generations”(Hilfer, 2009). Feelings on school uniforms seem to differ as much as the reasons for having them, hate it, or love it. Recent studies done in the University of Alabama states that: “Student Uniform use was not significantly correlated with any of the school commitment variables. In addition, students wearing uniforms did not appear to have any significantly different academic performance” (Brunsma & Rockquemore, 1998). The problem whether schools should still be continuously implemented is a highly debatable topic.
School Uniforms in the Case of : Students v. Public School Uniforms School uniforms are increasing as we speak, about every 1 out of 5 public schools requiring them (school-uniforms.procon.org). I believe that school uniforms should not be enforced in public schools for the reason being it 's a public school which is supported by funds from the public. Why should schools be able to force uniforms on students when their funded by the public. My first point is school uniforms can be very high in their costs. My second point is school uniforms don 't stop bullying but might cause more violence than before.
The first documented use of School uniforms was in England in 1222. Ever since then uniforms have been growing in popularity. In the United States, a movement toward using uniforms in state schools began when Bill Clinton addressed it in the 1996 State of the Union, Today, 16.5% of public schools in the US require students to wear uniforms, and 54% enforce a strict dress code (Peter Caruso). Although school uniforms take away the ability of self expression, students should be required to wear school uniforms because of the many positive benefits, they entitle Students who struggle focusing or have bad behavior, most likely have poor grades. Luckily, school uniforms enforce discipline in students and can improve academic performance in school.
Wearing Uniforms in Public Schools Heather Graham Christopher Huntington ENG122 January 3, 2016 WEARING UNIFORMS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS DeMitchell, T. A., & Fossey, R. (2015). The Challenges of Mandating School Uniforms in the Public Schools: Free Speech, Research, and Policy. Rowman & Littlefield. The publication is a revealing piece that shades insight on the accrued impact of incorporating mandatory schools uniforms within the learning environment.
Uniforms should not be established into schools for many different reasons, for example, uniforms restrict student’s freedom of expression. Besides school uniforms promote conformity over individuality. Uniforms may have a detrimental effect on student’s self-image. Another thing is that school uniforms may delay the transition into adulthood. This is my opinion, but I’m not sure that many people agree with me.
