Remember reading fantasy stories of fairies and talking animals as little kids and wanting more than anything to enter the story yourself? Well, I fell in love with Harry Potter when I was in second grade. I have become more and more obsessed with the story and it's complicated meanings and connections with the book itself. To make my child dream even more real I got to visit Universal Orlando Florida. We walked down the brick patterned road which led to an opening with two tunnels.
When talking about beloved presidents, one of the first that comes to mind is Franklin D. Roosevelt. According to InsideGov.com, FDR ranks third in average approval rating of all US presidents. Many people, however, do not realize that FDR was the president during the start of World War Two, and most importantly was the president who directed the Japanese-Americans to internment camps. In the novel, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford, we get a more intimate look into the way these internment camps affected people of the time. Ford paints a picture of distrust and fear through the flashbacks of Henry, a boy of Chinese descent who grew up in 1942 around the time Pearl Harbor was bombed.
While we have made a little progress towards Martin Luther King’s dream, there is still much work to be done. By economic standards, black people in America are still being handed a check “marked ‘insufficient funds’”. “Middle-Class Black Families, in Low-Income Neighborhoods”, an article published in The New York Times, reports that “[even] among white and black families with similar incomes, white families are much more likely to live in good neighborhoods — with high-quality schools, day-care options, parks, playgrounds and transportation options.” Research shows that children in better neighborhoods are much more successful than children from poorer neighborhoods.
Tiananmen Square is a city located in Beijing, named after the Tiananmen located to its north, separating it from the Forbidden City. In 1989, there was a “massacre” of mostly college students from the government, due to protests attempting to overrun the one-party system and make it a democracy. The government claims nothing happened and wants to keep it like that. The book “1984” written by George Orwell in 1949, is a book representing the ideas of a totalitarian government coincidentally relating to some of WWII era’s axis governments. In the article “No One Died in Tiananmen Square” by William Lutz, Lutz argues that people actually died in Tiananmen Square through the use of repetition, through examples of government manipulation, and communist governments, much like how it is seen in “1984”
Deciding the Annexation of the Philippines Assessment: On Google Docs you need to write a three paragraph essay arguing whether or not the United States should or should not annex the Philippines. You need to use 2 pieces of evidence from the documents per paragraph. Americans might have thought that all war and chaos would have ended and stayed in the year of 1898, when we (America) won over the Spanish, in the Spanish-American war. Although, we were partially right with allowing us to have some sort of peace, we did not figure that we may have to have annex a whole different country, taking away from our “peace”.
Introduction As the world’s population continues to migrate and live in urban areas, planners, engineers, and politicians have an important role to ensure that they are livable and sustainable. But what defines an urban area and what makes it so attractive? In my opinion, urban areas are places that consist of a variety of land uses and buildings, where services and amenities are easily accessible to the general public, and includes an established multimodal transportation network. Also, it should be a place where people can play, learn, work, and grow in a safe and collaborative manner.
Shanti Elliott doesn’t love the current Civic Engagement program either. As the director of Civic Engagement, she sees a lot of flaws in the current situation. “ I would prefer Civic engagement much more through classes as opposed to this separate program and separate set of requirements,” Elliott said. “Which does feel forced. It feels artificial.”
The man is in charge of the house, and he is to be followed at all the times. The women are assigned to more menial jobs like sewing, gardening, cooking, and shopping. Women were very limited with how they could spend their days. The Filipino families are dependent on the father to be the bread winner. The mother is usually expected to stay at home and take care of the children even at the expense of her career.
The issue of women’s rights and how different societies and cultures deal with it had been on the table for many centuries. In the United States of America during the 1800s, women began to move toward and demand getting equal rights as men, they decided to speak up and fight for their stolen rights. In the 1960s, continued working toward their goal, women broadened their activities through the women’s rights movement which aimed to help them in gaining their right to receive education, occupy the same jobs that were once titled only for men, and get an access to leadership positions. The women’s rights movement has a great impact on women today, although it started a long time ago, but it did not stop and women are reaping their fruit today,

The Cavite Mutiny of 1872 Philippine’s early history has been a series of colonization, revolution, and freedom with Spain as the first colonizers who occupied the Philippines for over 300 years. Every 12th of June since 1898, we, Filipinos, celebrate our Independence Day. In 1896, because of our desire to break free from the grasp of the abusive Spanish colonizers, a revolution broke out.
