Today's minimum day so we we're dismissed at twelve noon. The squad decided not to go anywhere today as we were going out everyday since last week — going to one's house after another just to have a movie marathon and nap. The first thing I did as I got home from the academy is drop my backpack on a chair in my room. I changed into comfortable clothes and threw my worn clothes in the laundry basket. I went to the kitchen and opened a bag of Honey Butter Chips before going back to my room and letting my body fall backwards onto the bed.

Grendel’s mother never did much. Often, she would sleep in her marsh den and hug her son when he returned home. For twelve years she would hunt, sleep, and sit all day. However, after Grendel’s accident this triggers her into becoming more monstrous than she had ever been. The narrator explains, “Then suddenly, the vehement mother avenged her son and wreaked destruction; death had robbed her” (Heaney 145).
The rain outside had been as wild as her own fourteen-year-old helpless grief. She had not even been allowed to go to the station to see her mother off for India. When her clinging arms had been finally, regretfully, unloosed, she had rushed upstairs and sobbed all night into her mother’s empty pillow.… With the passing weeks and months the aching loneliness had never ceased, merely subsided.” [Dorothy Clarke Wilson, Dr. Ida: The Story of Dr. Ida Scudder of Vellore (New York: McGraw-Hill, 1959), 5.] Scudder initially had no intention of joining her family tradition and becoming a missionary. After high school, she stayed back in the United States to attend a “young ladies’ seminary” in Northfield, Massachusetts, founded by D. L. Moody.

Though she is now 84 years old and those horrible experiences had occurred more than half a century ago, her eyes were still filled with tears at the vivid memories she survived. To prepare for the escape, her mother made some forged papers, and ran to the remote countryside with her. “There was literally nothing to eat,” Segall said. “I could only scavenge some apple cores and sugar beets,” she
This continues on that when sun-downing happens people with Alzheimer’s don’t even know what year it is. I have had women crawling out of bed at about 10pm because they have to get home to their children and if you ask them their age they will tell you they are in their 20s most likely. I had a women everyday tell me her leg was broken, when she broke her leg back when she was in her 30s, not when I was caring for her in her 90s. The memory decline until people can no longer even speak to others or have any memories at all. This happens toward the end of life and it is the not eating that kills them because the Alzheimer’s had destroyed the brain to that point.
