Gun control has been a controversial issue for years and numerous solutions have been proposed and enacted. The debate sparked after tragic civilian attacks, like school shootings. An example, is the tragedy in 1999 at Columbine High School. Two teens attacked the school, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before killing themselves. Following this attack, numerous solutions have been argued and purposed. However, a definite solution still has not been reached and America is split on the topic. The solutions currently enacted focus on guns, yet America still has a serious issue with gun related crime attacks, and fatalities. Solutions should not solely target the actual guns, because guns are powerless without the person who fires the weapon. The solution should not be to take away guns, but to consider the people who have access to them. Addressing mental health is the real solution to preventing gun violence and attacks.
Over the past few weeks, arming teachers has been a controversial topic throughout the country. School shootings have taken the lives of many over the past few years, yet they are becoming more and more frequent. In today’s society children shouldn’t have to go to school worried if they are going to be safe that day. If teachers are armed it will add that extra bit of protection to the children. A big question is if arming teachers is even going to matter if an active shooter happens to be in that school. What a lot of people do not take into consideration is that the teachers must go through training and have to be liable to the responsibilities they are taking once they have a concealed carry weapon. Arming teachers could help lower the number of school shootings because the reaction times will be much faster, and it will add a bit of security to the children.
Teachers with guns could possibly cause an increase in the amount of violence that happens in their classrooms. The fact of violence in their classrooms, for example, "what happens when a triggerhappy teacher what happens when a teacher wrongly identifies a threat and shoots an innocent person?” (" Even in a teacher 's hand, guns don 't belong in school" ). Human are humans. We can make mistakes, a teacher has a gun in their classroom, is more probable that students could be injured. Teachers are teachers not killers. Teachers do not wants to hurts any of their students. On the contrary, they wants the best protection of ache one of them. these are examples of what can happens with teachers with guns “what happens when that teacher pulls
The 21st century has brought out a lot of violence not only in the communities in general but it also puts the lives of students in school in danger. Individuals should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon if they choose to in order to be able to feel safe weather the person is a teacher or a student.
In a nation of pioneers and settlers, where we capitalize upon a bear wielding a firearm to represent “our right to bear arms” there has come to be quite a bit of bloodshed because of that right. Fear has been interwoven into the school system, a kind of fear that even the greatest school safety measures cannot prevent. Such instances being the Columbine, Newtown, and the more recent Parkland school shooting. It cannot be controlled who does the killing, but what can be isolated is the weapon those chose as their aid in the slaughtering. So many lives are lost in these devastations a step towards preventing more from being lost is increasing gun control. Without increased gun control anyone can play the role of God and chose to end the lives
One day, one child, one gun, one school. Now, as saddening as it is to admit, we live in a world where school shootings are a part of everyday life, and there is nothing being done to stop them. As most can recognize, most of the media is more focus on what the President is going to say after the shootings happen, rather than focusing on what we as a nation are going to do to stop these tragic events. There have been a few ideas when it comes to solving this issue, and truthfully, most of these ideas will fall flat on their faces; meanwhile, arming teachers seems to be a possible solution. Arming teachers will deter shooters, secure students fears from outside threats, and in the worst case scenario can stop a school shooter before they can commit mass murder.
Teachers should be able to possess guns during school hours because the teacher could protect the students, be able to prevent school shootings, and neutralize other threats.
As life goes on, we have no clue what is going to happen tomorrow, as many of us just live life as it goes but in reality, we should think of situations such as a fire, intruder, kidnapping etc. situations. There has been staff and students killed in shootings at Columbine high School in Colorado in 1999, Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012 and now at Stoneman Douglas in Florida, where or who is next? No one is expecting this kind of situation nor are they well prepare for them. Schools preform drills such as shelter-in-place, lockdown, evacuation, drop, cover, and hold in case of an earthquake etc. but in reality as much as the students practice the safety drills in that moment each person will forget everything and have so many other questions
Students today live their day-to-day lives in constant fear of what seems inevitable. The United States has one of the highests rates of school shootings in the world. Society has become so desensitized to these shootings that they are no longer shocked to hear about another school falling victim to it. Even when students take a stand against gun violence, the only solution offered to them is a proposition to arm teachers. However, bringing more guns into a school will only further deteriorate the situation. Teachers should not be armed in schools because the could not handle a real situation, and the liability is too much of a risk.
Hypothetically, a law is passed stating that teachers are allowed to carry guns in school. In a sick twisted world, the teacher becomes the school shooter. Your student is in class and their teacher pulls out their government funded school weapon and starts shooting. How is your child supposed to protect themselves if the approved district teacher starts shooting the students with a malicious intent. Teachers should not be allowed to carry guns at school. There negatives for teachers having guns at school include: students getting the gun, extensive training for the teachers - which would cost money, students frightened to learn, and what would happen if the approved teacher with the gun is not there. There should be no need for teachers to
Being safe at school is something that a person shouldn’t have to worry, about but it has become a concern for a lot of parents, teachers, and school administration. Increasing security in high school, middle school, and elementary school would help control and protect the kids from possible threats, as well as creating a safe learning environment and show kids that police officers are good people.
Reason #1 for teachers being able to carry a gun, protection of students. Imagine being a parent in this day and age were you have to worry about your child going to what was a safe environment in the parents age. What is now a risk for a mentally ill and damaged individual to kill as many innocent people as possible. This should not be a worry for the child or parents but it has to be because at this point any school is a threat. So a possible factor in decreasing shootings is arming teachers, by doing this teachers can fight back instead of shielding or running from the shooter. Reason #2 teachers can defend their students by changing this law and using correct training teachers should be able to carry a weapon. By doing this not only insure safety it will give relief for parents all over the country. This tactic will give school staffs a chance to outnumber a possible shooter. If all teachers are armed shootings will be reduced up to 40% in fear through the shooters eyes. Another
Since the Columbine High School shooting, school shootings have become a common occurrence. People have become so accustomed to seeing them on the news, so we hardly bat an eye at them anymore. For every instance of a school shooting we see, there are hundreds of lawmakers making public that their thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. Frankly, those thoughts and prayers are simply not enough anymore. The Parkland shooting is one of many school shootings, that have brought light to the subject of gun violence in schools, and it is clear, if it hasn’t been one already, that gun regulation needs to change.
Unlike professional shooters, teachers must undergo a series of training in order to obtain a gun. Without the proper protection and training, which was not included in the resolution, would guarantee that the weapons would fall under the wrong hands of the students. Everytown Research states, “Among shootings at K-12 schools in which the age of the shooter was known, 56 percent (39 of 70) were perpetrated by minors.” The resolution states that all teachers would be armed, but, if the teachers were to be armed, the teachers would traumatize the students mentally away from them. Hamby, a research professor in the department of education states, “ ...the links between exposure to weapons violence and negative outcomes of trauma in kids (including depression, anxiety and aggression).” This is important because if the students are aware of the teacher’s possession then the risks of wrongdoing and mental disasters will definitely
Guns have no role in our country schools. Schools and colleges are places of education. Students should be free to learn in an environment away from every day violence. The catastrophes that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Columbine High School, and Virginia Tech. confirm the penetrating conclusion guns have in our nation’s schools. Violence on campus has Students, Parent, and University Staff all concerned and looking for preventative measures. Guns on campuses make the vulnerable even more vulnerable. Even though having guns on campus would improve response time, having guns on campus would also increases the chances of a confrontation escalating and turning lethal.
