As a soldier in World War II, he faced many challenges with his crew and within himself.
When Maurice is put into Progress he feels that he let a lot of people down and failed them so a majority of the book is Reese attempting to build relationships again. Maurice is in a tough spot, growing up on the streets with bad peers supporting him, but he understands that if he finds himself then he’ll be successful in life after Progress. Forgiveness is the main theme is this book because Reese goes through many dark times throughout his time in the juvenile facility, but with the help of others he grows to a strong man and rebuilds lost friendships with family members, and friends. Walter Dean Myers wrote the novel Lockdown in an emotional, thrilling, intriguing way that always keeps you on your heels and always keeps you thinking. Start to end a great read with a wonderful inspirational story that leaves the reader speechless.
Sohrab is Amir’s nephew, he is family and he must take care of him, after all he did save his life. Amir wants to adopt Sohrab and bring him back to America with him. Without proof of his parents death, Sohrab cannot be determined as an orphan. “Sohrab is deeply scarred by the loss of his parents, and it becomes difficult for the young boy to trust people. When Amir nearly fails in his effort to adopt Sohrab after rescuing him, the boy tries to kill himself rather than face losing his surrogate parent” (The Kite Runner).
In the book An Invisible Thread, the author often provides examples of parents that have a poor quality of parenting. First there is Laura’s father Nunziato Carino, who’s a bartender. After he is done with his shift, he would often come home drunk and yell at his son, Frank who is Five. Frank will quickly hide under his bed sheet as his father dammed his name again and again. This happened frequently and every one would hide in their rooms as unfortunate Frank takes his father’s heavy word beating each night.
Chris, who is the father, wants the best for his son and for his own son to have a better life than his father’s. Chris is having difficulty finding a stable job that can accept him with only a high school diploma. Among other mishaps, his wife is leaving him for a better paying job, he’s behind on taxes and the rent for his apartment, and raising his son by himself. He wants his son to have a higher education than him and have a life that he didn’t quite reach to yet. While reading The Grapes of Wrath, Rose of Sharon had a dream already planned for her expected baby.
He wants to set a strong example for his son, Travis, just like his father did for him. Even though Walter is the main character of the story, it is the women in his life who have the biggest dream for him, to find his own manhood. Manliness is having the strength to stand up for what is right, and Mama realizes that Walter has found his manhood when she says to Ruth, “He finally come into his manhood today, didn’t he? Kind of like a rainbow after the rain”(1935). Throughout the play when Walter loses and eventually recovers his pride it forms a major plotline in the play.
With all the years the father has missed, he wants to be a part of her life more. Young’s dad is trying to be a better figure to her by “...smooths and sands as filling in all of the empty crevice (15-16)” this allows the narrator’s dad to have a better relationship and get to know her better. “... Father of mine whose love keeps him moving from room to room (23-25)” even though the narrator’s dad doesn’t express his love towards his daughter he is starting to work on it now. In “The Gold Mountain Coat” the relationship that Sam Sing, has with his sons John and Ken, is very unhealthy. Sam is very selfish dad who never shows any love for them.
Gregor Samsa is a traveling salesman working to pay off his parents’ debt. One morning, Gregor wakes up and discovers he is a “monstrous verminous bug.” He thought he was dreaming, but everything in the room appeared to be the same way he left them the night before. He tries to go back to sleep but cannot get on his right side because of his abnormal shape. He wakes up again and looks at his alarm clock, it is six thirty. He missed the five o’clock train and already knows he will be in trouble with his boss.

He still had hope that his dad could survive. However, this quote at the end of the story, “I no longer thought of my father,” (pg 113) showed that he lost all hope and only thought about himself and his own health due to the circumstances. He remembers his father saying to him “If you are alive, there is hope for a better day and something good to happen. If there is nothing good left in the destiny of a person, he or she will die” (54). The words of Ishmael 's father help galvanize Beah to continue on his journey although it is harsh and unbearable. Beah is struggling with depression and isolation, but the words of his father give him a sense of hope and light at the end of the tunnel that he will survive. The war was harsh, and the cruel and unjust treatment of the soldiers causes Ishmael Beah to live his childhood in fear and discomfort.
Bryon and Cathy are at the hospital with her dad after M&M has been admitted. Bryon takes Cathy home then returns to his own home where he is looking for a cigarette. While looking, he finds Mark’s bottle of drugs and is so upset because it reminds him of M&M that Bryon calls the police. The police arrest Mark and Bryon testifies against him at trial. Mark goes to jail for five years but his attitude is so bad he eventually ends up in prison.
