The redox potential of Puupehedienone/puupehenone couple was calculated at the DFT- B3LYP/6-311G(d,P) level of theory in conjugation with Polarizable Continuum Model (PCM). The calculated value of redox potential relative to SHE was -0.37V. This study may helps to design the inhibitors of different Lipoxygenases. Key words: Puupehenone, Density functional theory, Redox potential Lipoxygenases are non-heme iron containing oxidative enzymes, occurring in a number of plants and animals [1, 2]. These enzymes catalyze oxygenation of naturally occurring poly-unsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) such as arachidonic acid and linoleic acid [3]. More importantly, lipoxygenases are involved in the regulation of inflammatory responses that can promote human disease. For example, human …show more content…
To get ∆G0 from computation, the following thermodynamic cycle (scheme 2) is used. This thermodynamic cycle involved all the species in the reaction (1) from gas to solution phase. Using this thermodynamic cycle, ∆G0 (total) can be written as ∆G0 (total) = ∆G0 (g) +∆G0 (solv, PH2) -∆G0 (solv, P) - 2∆G0 (solv, H+) (3) 3 ∆G0 (total) P (aq) + 2H+ (aq) + 2e → PH2 (aq) ∆G0 (solv,P) ↑ ∆G0 (solv,2H+)↑ ↑∆G0 (solv,PH2) P (g) + 2H+ (g) + 2e → PH2 (g) ∆G0
At this point I found that if the hot plate was at 147˚C the solution boiled more vigorously, meaning that my ketone hade a boiling point of 147˚C, which was close to the known boiling point value for 3-heptanone , 146˚C. The hot plate was turned down after this was noticed. After the solution was heat, approximately for five minutes, the mass was found for the bottom layer, which was 2.27g, and the percent yield was calculated. The percent yield was determined by taking the mass of the final ketone and dividing it by the original mass of the alcohol.
Unbroken is a book written by Laura Hillenbrand. The book is about Louie Zamperini. Throughout his childhood, he was always a troublemaker. He stole, he lied, and wreaked havoc in his town. In highschool he decides to do track and dedicates all his time to it.
The second half of “The Life of Olaudah Equiano” written by himself focuses on his life as a freeman. Equiano, a tradesman traveling the world encountered new adventures, which led to spiritual transformations. Equiano endures a cultural mainstream through multiple viewpoints. He acknowledges similarities and differences between cultures, which transforms his curiosity for adventure toward the practice of converting new cultures to his beliefs as a Christian. What would one expect the identity of a man that bought his freedom out a slavery, only to take part in the practicing of slavery himself?
Unbroken is a biography by Laura Hillenbrand about Louie Zamperini’s entire life. Louie Zamperini is a son of Italian Immigrants that moved to Torrance, California. He starts out as a problem child that would steal, drink and smoke, but he eventually straightens out through sports and became an Olympian later in life. After he went to the Olympics, he gets drafted into World War 2.
The Horrors of the Naoetsu POW Camp Throughout Laura Hillenbrand’s Book Unbroken: An Olympian’s Journey from Airman to Castaway to Captive, Louie is sent to numerous POW camps but eventually ends up at the Naoetsu POW Camp, where he is finally liberated. This camp, the last that Louie has to endure, does not come without struggles and beatings that can put anyone over the edge. Although all parts of the Naoetsu POW camp were horrible, the worst parts were the dreadful living conditions, a wretched prison guard, and extensive torture sessions that caused men to lose all hope of survival. Living conditions at the Naoetsu POW Camp were deplorable and unsanitary, causing Louie’s mental health to decline and his life to worsen. On page 201 of Unbroken,
The Raza Unida Party or otherwise known as RUP was first established as a third political party in Crystal City, Texas, in January, of 1970. It started off at a meeting that contained about 300 Mexican Americans. As an alternative to the two-party system in Texas, Raza Unida pursued social, economic, and political self-determination for Chicanos, other minorities, and the disenfranchised through local and, later, state politics. When they first started out they came about around the county, local, and school district elections in south Texas. They also ended up winning city council elections in Cotulla, Carrizo Springs, and Crystal City in April 1970.
Australian Giant Cuttlefish are in the following taxons, being ordered largest to smallest, Animalia, Mollusca, Cephalopoda, Sepioloida,Sepiidae,Sepia, lastly Apama. Their scientific name is, Sepia apama coming from their genus and species. Sepia apama is found about 100 meters under water around the southern coasts of Australia and Tanzania, in the seagrass beds of these coastal waters. Sepia apama typically eat small like crabs organisms called, crustaceans, and small fish. Sepia apama has predators in its own environment and hides from predators in an unusual way.
+ H2O (g) Reaction 4: when a sulphuric acid is added to the solution that contains copper (II) oxide, a double displacement reaction will occur. the copper (II) oxide will react with the sulphuric acid producing copper (II) sulfate and water. The copper and hydrogen gas replace each other. Balanced Chemical Equation: CuO (s) + H2SO4 (aq) —> CuSO4 (aq) + H2O (l) Reaction 5: when zinc is added to the copper (II) sulfate solution, a single displacement reaction will occur.
I am honored to be eligible amongst the meritorious students who are being considered for induction within the National Honors Society. Being an active member in this society has been something I have been looking forward to since middle school; having previous family members inducted, I regard it as a goal I must accomplish. I would be honored to be a member of this society which is known for benefitting children, the elderly, and the needy .These limitless opportunities of contributing to my community will help me grow as a person which will undoubtedly help me in my future career as oncologist and leave an impact on my fellow community members. The National Honors Society is a remarkable organization for someone who demonstrates leadership,
(150.22g/mol)(3.5 x 10^-3 mol of nucleophile) = 0.525 g Actual yield = 0.441 g, Percent Yield = (0.441g/0.525g) x 100% = 84% 10. Percent recovery from recrystallization = (0.172g/0.441g) x 100% = 38% 11.
Wangari Maathai grew up being taught to love the environment and respect the fig tree. Which in her elders called the “Tree of God”. She did and like the roots of the fig tree she describes in her memoir unbowed. she was given a fertile environment to grow. Where there was no reason to fear or to have uncertainty.
The actual data is the result on our experiment vs theoretical, which is based on the calculations above. I have also learned to pay more attention to draining out all of the product completely before continuing to test the experiment, as any small drop of contaminant can veer our results into a different
CONCLUSION When you put an egg in vinegar, we see that the shell dissolves, but do you ever wonder why? An egg is made mostly out of calcium carbonate which reacts with an ingredient in vinegar, acetic acid. Acetic acid is about 4% of the vinegar and what breaks apart the solid calcium carbonate crystals. The bubbles we see, from the egg, is the carbonate that make carbon dioxide and the other calcium ions float free. This is the equation: CaCO3 (s) + 2 HC2H3O2 (aq)
In part 2, using the Michaelis-Menten kinetics of the enzyme, identified the inhibitor (75 mM phenylalanine) as an uncompetitive inhibitor. This is because Vmax and Km decrease when the inhibitor is added (7). The function of reversible, uncompetitive inhibitors is the removal of the enzyme substrate complex from circulation. This is done by the reaction creating an enzyme-substrate-inhibitor complex. An example of a common drug that is a noncompetitive inhibitor is the herbicide, Roundup.
