It is vital to protect the rights of children’s with disabilities and these safeguards aid in doing so. Within them the rights and responsibilities of parents, children, agencies, and the school district, are outlined in detail. They protect children and families by making sure each component is explained within their native language and in their preferred mode of communication. They are also protected by making sure that parents are always well informed on what the school is proposing or refusing to do, as early as possible so that parents can participate in the school’s proposed actions or respond to its refusals. The procedural safeguards also lay out every procedure within special education, so that parents and the school district know exactly what steps must be taken.
Through these challenges, however, teachers should be prepared to move forward in ensuring they meet the demands and needs of exceptional scholars, and track their progress daily. Each and every scholar should have the opportunity to succeed in both school, and in their daily lives. As teachers, we are not only preparing our scholars to meet their goals, but to exceed every expectation they face in the every day world. According to the reading, Exceptional Scholars, as well as stated in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, [education should be]… “Specially designed instruction, at no cost to parents, to meet the unique needs of a child with a
The laws have shaped this nation into what it is today. One of the most important duties is to be a lawful citizen. Respecting each other is a basic concept that I find to be vital to the success of America. Our race or religion does not define us; we all merit the same respect. All of us are born equal, therefore, we all have the same rights that must be respected.
As technology increases, textbooks are becoming more obsolete, but can still be used in classrooms. Textbooks are a resource that can benefit students greatly, but there are school districts throughout America that simply can’t afford new textbooks. “The court noted that ‘they go to the very heart of education,’ and that they ‘are the most essential tool of education since they contain the resources of knowledge which the educational process is designed to exploit’” (Merjian 12). Even though the courts agreed that the textbooks are a benefit to students, they feel as though it is up to the school districts to provide them. Which leads to the major problem, some school districts can’t afford them.
Numeracy is skills within mathematics, and involves all aspects, not just numbers. The ability to be numerate involves having the skill to work with numbers, and be able to understand all aspects of mathematics that help with practical demands, in all features of everyday life (State of New South Wales (Department of Education), 2015). Numeracy bridges the gap between the maths that we learn in school, and the contexts it is used in, in everyday life. It can be argued that students develop numeracy as a result of all the mathematical experiences they learn in and out of school. Success in early mathematics has lifelong significance in students.
Education is a virtue in our society. The growth and development of a successful civilization depends on an educated populace. Schools were created to serve this purpose, to educate the youth and prepare them for their professional and personal lives in the future. However, while we do learn mathematics, history, literature, and art – all of which are important skills and subjects – the real importance of school lies on a different spectrum. The most important lesson that schools teach children is the truth about society and the real world.
1. In the identified video in ATLAS (Case #2454), the mathematics teacher did a great job in making sure he used cultural appropriateness in his learning outcomes. You can tell from the video that the teacher made sure that everything was out in the open. This mathematics teacher used cultural appropriateness by allowing the students to work in groups to help each other with the math problems. This allows the students to be productive with students of a different culture.
Math is useful in my career, because I will be responsible for teaching young children the fundamentals of Math which they will need to understand. The children will rely on the teacher to transmit the information which is necessary in their formative years. In addition, being able to understand and solve mathematical problems is not only necessary and important for me but also the young minds that I will help to develop. Math is also very necessary for day to day functions. Many people would say that they do not see how Math is necessary to certain aspects of life; although it is being used every day.
