Imagine living in a time where ruling as a female is rare and not widely approved. Elizabeth Tudor known as Queen Elizabeth I came to power over England at age 25 and was third in line for the throne after her half brother Edward and sister, Princess Mary ("Queen Elizabeth I."). Queen Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1533 in Greenwich, England and was a huge disappointment to England. “A boy after all could be a king, whereas a girl—well, a girl could be a queen” (Axelrod). Elizabeth Tudor was the daughter of King Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn ("Queen Elizabeth I.").
While growing up in a royal family, Queen Elizabeth had to correspond to many expectations, but it was easy for her since she inherited intelligence and determination from both her parents ("Queen Elizabeth I."). Queen Elizabeth was fluent in six languages and was talented in the world of arts and music. Her half brother, Edward VI ruled until his death in 1553 and later his half sister Mary took the throne, putting Elizabeth in prison for almost a year on suspension for supporting Protestant rebels ("Elizabeth I (r.1558-1603)"). On November 17, 1588, Elizabeth succeeded her half sister Mary and set out to dominate England until her death. Elizabeth’s reign is often referred to the Elizabethan Era, the period of flourishing English drama. Since Elizabeth was very talented, she was often involved in different activities such as watching plays, dancing, and she also played the flute in her spare time.
