To conclude, racial stereotypes have always existed in society, and probably will always do so. The media is a controls what they want us to see, which is one reason for the widely differing views on its role in creating stereotypical images. The world is changing, though, and in some areas very quickly. In order to put a stop to racial stereotyping, society must indirectly control the media, not vice versa because every chance the media gets they will more than willingly use stereotyping as a tool in the control of society.
Television has always played on stereotypes. It’s not until recently with the up and up of social justice in social media that has brought out these stereotypes to light. Things should not always be taken at face value. When I sit down and watch TV or a film, I used to just do it for the escapism aspect of it. The ritual of mindlessly watching Bad Girls Club or Keeping Up with the Kardashians is long gone.
Hypotheses In light of a recent police officer involved shooting in Chicago, a Chicago police officer (white officer), was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a black teenager. There has been numerous police involved shootings in the U.S. in this past year, and the Chicago incident is not the first or last. Race baiting has become a hot topic and has gone viral around the nation. It is evident that the practice of the use of force is widely talked about in social media, and law enforcement leaders are aware that they must educate and train their officers regarding such usage.
Stereotyping has been around forever and will continue to stay, but there are things that can be done which would stop it from being used so often. By informing the public about stereotyping and the problems associated with it people can decide whether they want to participate in something that is looked down on. First and foremost the leaders of the black communities, such as musicians and professional athletes need to spread the word about stereotyping because they have the greatest impact on society. Educating blacks on the stereotypes regarding their lifestyles would allow them to make a conscious effort to behave in a way that would eliminate the stereotypes.
Stereotypes have always been a part of our society which have contributed to our culture and way of life. For example, In Cold Blood portrays two criminals who feel inferior to the rest of the people surrounding them because of society’s perceptions of these men due to the actions they had perpetrated in their past. The two men were viewed as criminals by the people in their lives and they did not believe they could overcome what people thought about them. Both men began their bad decision by stealing money and after being labeled as bad people, they continued their actions by murdering because they did not think they could change their reputations (Capote). Being a fast food worker for the past year and a half, I have been exposed to numerous different types of people, and most of them are not the same race as me. When I first started to get to know them, even though at times there was difficulty communicating, we were able to make it work and build stronger relationships. One of my favorite managers was Rose, a Hispanic woman who had been so kind to me. She was an example of someone who was able to teach me things about herself I could have stereotyped and not taken the time to learn anything about her as an individual. Growing up in Joliet, Illinois has always given me the opportunity to experience race relations on a regular basis, just due to the diversity of the city that I live in.
When most races hear the words African American, negative thoughts rush to their brains. But why? Africans Americans have been perceived as negative characters to other races for decades. Individuals often forget large amount of blacks have been successful in life and still are accomplishing many things. Today, we live in a world where the bad outweighs the good. Because of this, many individuals of different races lack the knowledge that many blacks are actually achievers instead of failures.

Thesis: The problem in society today is in the industry of social media. In efforts to attract the eye of the general population, advertising companies create billboards, commercials, flyers and other ads with stereotypes that are accepted in today’s society. Society is constantly bombarded with images in the media that portrays the African American community in a negative light. Majority of the images we see of African Americans are images of gang bangers, drug dealers, and loose women. We always hear on the news of situations involving race, and lets face it, if it’s on the news it’s probably something more negative than positive. But, being a young adult causes me to be exposed to many more things on my own without the news or outside influences distorting my own point of view.
