The harmonies between our bodies are the same as the harmonies that come out of our horns. Every player is so integral to each other’s success that we become a family; a unit of music lovers and determined peers. To me, marching band isn’t just an extracurricular, it’s a place where I can work hard for a magnificent show while spending time with amazing people. To me, it’s a place to express my feelings through my instrument and feel the goosebumps rise while playing with others. To me, it’s home.

It makes it easier for students to involve themselves in their schoolwork when they can actually relate the information they learn in class to the things they hear and experience outside of class. Hip hop gives them a basis to study the learned information, as they transform the lyrics of their favorite rap song into the relevant material. Along with being able to relate hip hop to their education, it is motivating to know that the hip hop artists they look up to are encouraging them to continue their hard work in getting an education. Once the youth have a strong education based on things they can relate to their lives, they can go out into the real world knowing that everyone has a different background, and they can relate the ethics they have learned through application of hip hop in education to the world in which they
• Joe Lozito. He was the first person I saw free-styling, and I thought “wow that’s dope.” I definitely knew I had the creative ability to do something similar and he influenced me to follow the same path, musically. What’s your process? • I write all my own music. I don’t think I’d be able to rap someone else’s sh*t and say it’s mine, it’s just weird.

After this class I really plan on to continue working on my listening skills. I believe that listening is a very big part in our culture and being able to pay attention to what they have to say will only help me out in the long run. This goal is important to me because I want to be the best at what I do and not listening will not get me anywhere and I have the motivation to do my best at everything, and being a competent listener is one of those things on my list. My last goal is to become very knowledgeable in my studies so when I am able to get a job I will be able to communicate with the people in my field. I think that if I am above others at communicating in my field and comprehending everything that they say and or ask that I will be a high valued asset in their company/ business.

Broadcasting and sports I’ve found to have a high place in American Society, and I think that those higher societal responsibilities are important to recognize and I need to accept those. I look to people such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Muhammad Ali, Tony Dungy, and Colin Kaepernick as the perfect model for how to use your platform to better the world. They did this through playing, and coaching in Dungy’s case, but I would use broadcasting as my platform to create a better
