Radio DJ Characteristics

Radio Disc Jockey, also known as Radio DJ or announcer who responsible for playing music and broadcasting news on the radio. Radio DJ is also a specialist in specific genres of music. They use computerized sound equipment to broadcast different type of music. They play music for specific audience. Sometimes, they may read commercials on-air and accept calls from listeners. They can work for public, private radio stations and internet streaming sites which can interact with their audience. Other than that, radio DJ will interview some of the famous musician or celebrities to let their radio program more interesting. Radio DJ always stay alert of trends and also will influence the tastes of the listening public sometimes. New DJ develops a pleasing on air personality which is important to maintain listener’s loyalty on his or her radio program. A radio DJ is required to obey the On Air Code of Conduct. The On Air Code of Conduct includes the station name must be used at least once per mic break, profanity has to be kept at minimum, never abuse the listeners

They also have to choose which music to play at certain time. Those music playlist that is prepared is for specific audience and music genre. Although this works seems easy, but actually it is harder than it looks. Radio DJ must know his audience and choose the right type of music. For example, country music fans normally will be quite unhappy if a radio DJ chooses to play hip hop music for four hours. This might cause that radio DJ lost a bunch of listeners. Besides that, they have to talk about various topics between sets of song to avoid their listeners get bored. They also have to follow the stations set programming requirement and announce commercials in accordance. Sometimes, they may be responsible on writing commercials and skits too.
