Have you ever seen the Disney movie Cars? Im sure you have but if not I’ll you a part in the movie that involves railroad crossings. In the movie there is a race car named Lightning McQueen, he feel out of his truck named Mac while they were driving at night. When McQueen woke up he was in the middle of the road and so he tried to find Mac. He thought he saw him off on a side road so he went down it. Down the road there was a railroad with a train coming, the railroad crossing signs when down and it was all lit up and everything. Instead of stopping McQueen decided to speed up and beat the train. When he when over the track the train almost hit him. He got very lucky and didn’t get hit but there is a good chance he could’ve. When the railroad signs are down you need to come to a complete some at least 50 feet behind the sign. If the railroad signs go down and you don’t see a train coming you must stop. There are many crashes that happen on railroads. There are many movies where a car is even parked on a railroad and gets hit. I know these are just movies but it has actually happened and it has killed many people. This is not something to joke around about. Trains are very powerful machines. Some people just say oh they are slow I can beat it, or they say they are slow they can stop. Well, because of how heavy they are they cannot stop very fast, plus they are moving faster than you think with how much weight they pull. ELWOOD-Elwood police early Wednesday morning cited a train engineer after the train he was driving collided with a car and injured an Elwood woman at a crossing in downtown Elwood. It was the third time in two weeks that engineers have been ticketed by Elwood police at the same crossing. Lucille McKinney, 42, was driving her Buick across a double set of railroad tracks on State Road 28 near Main Street when it was struck by a slow-moving Central Line engine. McKinney said she never saw the train coming.
