Rainsford who is innocent of what is going to happen says, “The world is made up of two classes—the hunters and the huntees. Luckily you and I are the hunters”. This comment makes readers suspect that the tables are going to turn on Rainsford. Because they don’t know how it’s going to happen if it even does, readers feel stress and suspense. Later in the story, Rainsford is in the general’s home and admiring his hunting trophies.
Not many men know how to make a Malay man-catcher” (76). If the story was not set on an island Rainsford would have no other choice than to walk back to General Zaroff’s house, which would most likely result in his death. The setting contributes to Rainsford’s growth as a character. Now he is feeling what it is like to be hunted, just as the animals he hunts feel. He is learning what it is like to be stranded and isolated in the woods, while fearing
In the end Rainsford is able to win, and by doing so gains knowledge that changes him. Rainsford is a dynamic character because he changes from being apathetic towards hunting animals, to empathetic towards hunting animals. At the beginning of the story, Rainsford is apathetic towards hunting animals and sees no problem with doing so. In the exposition of the story, Rainsford is a big-game hunter, and enjoys hunting
The main characters decided that they wanted to head back to shore, because it was “cold”. The truth, however, was that they did not feel comfortable sitting out on the ice exposed. “Tapete suspected that Sklemucks was a little spooked himself.” They were letting their imagination run wild and free, leading them to assumptions about supposedly mythical creatures. In the other story by Alexie, the little boy lets his imagination run wild when he likens his problems to storms or tornadoes. When his uncles begin fighting, Victor thinks to himself “sudden rain like promises, like treaties.” He thinks of his problems like bad weather.
This sounds like it would be a very sad place to live and if I were not personally living in it I would feel awful for the people that were. Imagine thinking about another society that all had handicaps and you being able to keep that thought in your head and not them. This is why I would not like to live in a utopia like this. In “The Most Dangerous Game” General Zaroff gets bored with hunting animals and decides that he can hunt humans that get trapped on his island. When a world renowned hunter gets caught on his island he decides to treat him like a friend instead of prey.
However, hunting has changed drastically since it first began. People used hunting as a necessary way of life. They would use the animals meat for food, and their skin for clothes to stay warm. Now hunting is mostly used as a sport, trophy hunting is very common. Hunters will hunt for the joy and the thrill of killing an animal, but they do not consider the consequences.
But for this essay I will tell the reasons why hunting could be useful or bad/dangerous. The first thing I want to explain is why hunting is useful. Hunting can also be a means of pest control, as in there might be many animals or overpopulated animals. When that occurs hunters
I have been hunted by people while playing games I have also been hunted by animals while I was hunting. While hunting can seem like a one sided sport for the huntees it can very well be a two sided sport. The hunted can turn into the hunter in the blink of an eye. If the hunter makes a mistake then it could cause them to be the hunted. Just like in the story Rainsford becomes the hunter in an instant right when he appears in General Zaroff’s
“This hot weather is making you soft, Whitney. Be a realist. The world is made up of two classes-the hunters and the huntees. Luckily, you and I are hunters.” Rainsford has been there before, and I do not think he would want to go back along with anyone else, if he were to continue the big-game, he would not be able to kill someone, other than an animal, he enjoys hunting, just not people like General Zaroff. Rainsford got on Ship-Trap Island by falling off his yacht, once he heard a gunshot he went towards them, Rainsford did not mean to fall off his ship and land where he did, but he continues to go
How would you like it if some pirates decided it would be fun to invade on you and your family?” Rainsford groaned as he finally knew what he was going to do. He was going to help Zaroff, not because he felt bad for him but because he too liked his privacy. He also just wanted Zaroff to leave and disappear again. In was surprisingly relaxing after Rainsford survived and arrived home because he told everyone about the tricky man on the island. He contacted every local media outlet as well as national TV and radio stations.
