The “bell-shaped stupas” in Borobudur show how Buddhism was elaborated as it spread across Asian countries (Doc 2). The stupas create the shape of the Buddha as it is made for meditation and are distinctively found in Southeast Asia. Furthermore, this shows how art portrayed new developments of Buddha’s image, such as in the “Seated Buddha of Gandhara” in Pakistan (Doc 4). The statue represents the Eastern and Western culture as Greeks made the statues resemble Greek gods to portray the Buddha wearing a toga. This combines the culture of Hellenism and transforms Buddhism into a different image.
In 1918 the Carlisle Indian Industrial School shut its doors permanently. What remains of this experiment started by Richard Henry Pratt are not just buildings, but ghosts and scars that refuse to be forgotten. The structures that once constituted this exploratory school now stand where the Carlisle Army Barracks are situated today, and while it may seem as if the only observable aspects to remind us of the past are tombstones and markers, the stories still swirl in this town that became flooded with the desire to assimilate Native Americans. Pratt believed Indians possessed the ability to become a complimentary asset to American society if they received the proper education. He insisted that it was necessary to remove the Indians from the confines of the reservation in order to separate them from their culture and traditions, and transplant them to a setting that encouraged the Native Americans to learn the English language, to work for a living, as well as become useful members of society.
One example of their architecture that shows how important their gods were to them is the Deffufa. The Deffufa is a large block built from masonry mud and the palaces and temples were placed on top of this. This is very similar to how Cahokia was set up, the elite members were closest to the gods and the gods were held above all others in terms of importance. The Deffufa was found in the city of Kerma, and it is believed that this was a Nubian ceremonial place. The Deffufa is still an important ceremonial location today and many people visit it.

‘Analyse and reflect upon how the dance work, Mathinna, makes a powerful political and/or social statement regarding the Indigenous stolen generation in Australia.’ The contemporary dance work, ‘Mathinna’ by Bangarra Dance Company was inspired by a portrait of the same name by Thomas Bock depicting an Aboriginal girl in a red dress. Born on Flinders Island in 1835, Mathinna was taken from her family, alienated from her indigenous culture and placed in the home of a prominent white family, Governor Sir John and Lady Franklin.
