Gojek, Grab, and Uber are the three most popular companies well known in revolutionizing online public transportation service in Jakarta. Thanks to them, unemployment rate in Indonesia is decreasing drastically. BPS, the stats agency, announced that out of 124.4 million Indonesians, 7.03 million of it are unemployed, according to its August 2016 data. 5.61 percent. It is significantly lower than what recorded in August last year, when 7.56 million people were unemployed out of a total of 122.38 million. Other than reducing unemployment rate, they also make life a lot easier. The traffic congestion is just so bad to the point where it even ranked as the the worst traffic congestion in the world according to new index created by motor oil company Castrol in 2015 based on satellite navigation data. The index found that average driver starting and stopping more than 33,000 times in a year. It proves what novelist Seno Gumiro Ajidarma said that majority of Jakartan’s (people who live in Jakarta) waste 10 years of their lifetime in traffic. Time is more important than money, it never stops, moreover rollback. You won’t ever be able to get the time that you have lost forever, unless some genius scientist finds some shocking truth behind time. That’s why time should be treasured so much, but in Jakarta, treasuring is no easy matter because our time will always surely wasted on traffic congestion. There is almost no day without traffic congestion in Jakarta. Even in the weekend, traffic congestion is still happening in some specific spot. Traffic congestion has becoming too common in Jakarta that there is saying that Jakarta is not Jakarta without traffic congestion. MRT (Mass Rapid Transportation) seems to be the best solution. Using MRT should be way cheaper than using a private motor vehicle. Theoretically, it should also be faster because it’s moving on it’s own rail which mean no traffic congestion unlike when using private motor vehicle. It does take a lot of money to implement MRT, but it is more than worth it. The good news is that the government has realized this fact and MRT implementation is under construction now. There is also a bad news though, nowadays, people are getting more used to the ride-sharing and on-demand services of Gojek, Grab, and Uber, resulting in decreasing user of public transportation. It’s bad for Jakarta that has been making MRT. If it is allowed to continue, it would encourage more people to be online transportation drivers and in the worst case, it might also encourage more people from countryside to move to Jakarta to also become a drivers.
