Literature Urbanization is now felt pervasively over the entire world (Davies 1981 as cited in Roy & Saha, 2011) Bhutan is also facing unprecedented rate of urbanization in major part of the urban areas. According to the report written by Dasho Karma Ura, Migration and urbanization are two intertwined processes as per the data from Population and Housing Census of Bhutan, 2005. It observed that 51% of the population has moved and moreover people from rest of the country has moved towards western region for employment opportunities, education and marriage.

This is because Bhutan does not have trained personnel working in such division and the people living in private owned rented place land up paying equal to 30 to 40% of the monthly income to the landlords (Penjor). Due to the increasing population in Thimphu the middle income and low income group were found to be most affected by this issues and the limited housing acts and regulations prevailing today is under monitored and the setting of rent are almost to the wish of the landlords.
The geographical characteristics of Thimphu may fail to expand geographically after certain point of time but the population may continue to increase considering the current rate of migration and urbanization in Thimphu. This point is in line with another study where Breslau city could not expand geographically but kept absorbing the extra populations which further led to urban housing problems in Breslau city. Subsequently, Hurston introduces Sawley’s historical setting in the third paragraph that develops into the background of the community in the fourth paragraph. Hurston’s use of colloquial diction within the phrase, “There was then no U.S. 90,” hints the author’s benevolent tone toward the audience; due to the lack of formal diction, essentially to achieve a conversational mood. Additionally, Hurston goes into detail about the pathways that lead into Sawley which transitions into the background of this town. Moreover, in the fourth paragraph the author begins to explore the gruesome past of the community as well as the insensibility of its citizens. For Hurston to provide the reader a perception of Sawley’s inhabitants, the author applies parallelism

Growing up, I have always had an interest in geography and thinking about different countries and what makes them the way that they are. I have not been in a geography class since middle school and Human Geography was a class that made me think about things I have never thought of before. The readings of both Kropotkin and Mackinder brought up very interesting points, some that conflict and others that agree. Each author writes in a way that stimulates and makes you think about geography and certain topics in different ways which I find to be very rare in writings from this time period. Discussing Kropotkin’s and Mackinder’s general ideas, points they disagree or agree on, and my own views on the topic will all be discussed in this final paper.
Hurston begins by describing the beautiful geographical features that surround the town of Sawley with a mystified tone. Hurston utilizes imagery to convey the true beauty of Sawley and the surrounding area. This can be seen when she states, “waters, running swift and deep through the primitive forests, and reddened by the chemicals leached out of drinking roots. Hurston has an attraction the area which can be seen through her vivid descriptions of the natural features that provide the reader with images of the location.

Kingsley Davis, who is said to have pioneered the study of historical urban demography wrote his “The Urbanization of the Human population” in 1965. In his essay, he states that the history of the world is in fact the history of urbanization and then begins with description of how tiny European settlements grew slowly through the Middle Ages and the early modern period. According to him, urbanization occurred mainly because of rural-urban migration and not the other factors that people believe. He discusses how the production levels of this time period, due to the feudal system, used to favor an agrarian culture and then how the process of urbanization intensified during the 1900s, especially in Great Britain. He then clarifies the difference between urbanization, which he describes as the process of a society becoming more urban-focused, and the growth of cities i.e. the expansion of their boundaries.

Urbanization To what extent is urbanization a critical driver of social instability, failure of infrastructure, water crises & the spread of infectious diseases? Urbanization is basically the gradual increase in the proportion of people living in the urban areas or a specific area, and the ways in how the society adapts to it. Urbanization can be a good impact to a country and has the ability to improve its economy and the life of people but it also has the ability to destroy the country and the life of all the people that exist there.
