Ray Bradbury: A True Hero

In Ray Bradbury’s, Something Wicked This Way Comes, the book focuses on many different topics. Good v Evil, Fear, ect. Jim Nightshade and Will Halloway go on a dark and twisted adventure to stop the evil carnival. They grow up, faster than you can say wicked. The author uses the innocence of thirteen year old boys to teach the lesson of inner vs. outer beauty with, expectations, reality, and truth.

Edgar Allen Poe and Ray Bradbury were both amazing authors of many books. They wrote books and short stories about the supernatural, unlike many other authors. They caused their readers to think about the deeper meaning(s) about their stories. In their stories they use many literary devices : foreshadowing, imagery, irony, allusion, and symbolism that enhance their stories. Though they have things in common with their styles of writing, there are also some differences that they have.

The social commentary is in almost every dystopian title a person can come across. Moreover, one of the best examples is Fahrenheit 451. Fahrenheit 451 is in a way a reflection of Ray Bradbury’s childhood. The social commentary Ray puts into Fahrenheit 451 all comes from memories of his past time, it is a warning of the effects of censorship. Throughout Ray’s childhood, he has seen some of the worst possible censorship. For example, he lives through the times of Hitler’s leadership. He saw, as did everybody then and now the governmental censorship that Hitler threw at his people. He burned any religious books and this must of genuinely hurt Bradbury considering the fact that he is a believer in God. Ray spills all of this social commentary into his book.

Ray Bradbury (August 22, 1920 – June 5, 2012) was an American fantasy, science fiction, horror and mystery fiction author. In his works Bradbury brought up various problems, concerning scientific progress as well as personal interaction in modern society. One of these problems is relationship between children and adults.

Ray Bradbury born in 1920 to a middle class family. Bradbury went on to write and publish over five hundred pieces of literature. One of the novels he wrote was Fahrenheit 451, where he attempted to predict what the United States of America would look like in the future. The novel illustrates the idea of a totalitarian government and society burning books to stop the spread of knowledge, by following the development of the main character Guy Montag. Furthermore, the novel bring up the idea of Plato’s cave, in which Montag attempts to overcome the ideas of the society he grew up around. Plato’s Cave portrays prisoners captive in a cave and forced to look at the shadows projected on the wall in front of them for their entire life, until one of them is set free and allowed he choice of going back to the cave or leaving the cave . Many suggest that the novel Fahrenheit 451 represents the Allegory of the Cave given by the philosopher Plato; from the symbolism of the main character realizing the truth of his society and government, to wanting to know more about the situations around him and how they came to be, and finally making the decision to not go back to the society he grew up in.

Bradbury’s writing style was heavily influenced by important writers, all of whom increased his skill and fortitude. Bradbury’s writing is unique in a way unlike any other science fiction, one reason being that he does not consider his writing to be science fiction. His unique writing style gives Bradbury something to stand out starkly against other authors of this genre. Bradbury depicts a scary future in most of his stories, in an effort to prevent them from happening- something that requires a superior writing ability. Bradbury’s stories depicted futures taking place near right now, some as soon as 2026. In some ways, his predictions are scarily close, for instance, in Fahrenheit 451, he predicted we would be glued to earbuds that were constantly talking to us. In others, however, the predictions seem crazy, an example being a house that does your chores for you. The question that his writing forces you to ask yourself is how far away from his crazy predictions are we? The man Mr. Leonard mead was having a walk, like he always does, but suddenly a car pulls up and it was a police officer and comes and arrests him, but this was no ordinary police officer.

Some have named Ray Bradbury “the uncrowned king of the science-fiction writers” because of his imagination and beautiful way of making Fahrenheit 451 come to life. The book Fahrenheit 451 is one of the first books to deal with a future society filled with people who have lost their thirst for knowledge and for whom literature is a thing of the past. The author mainly portrays this world from the point of view of Montag, a man who has discovered the power that knowledge contains and is coming to grips with the fact that it is outlawed. However, the reader also gets to see what life is like for one of the people content in living a life lacking in independent thought and imagination through his wife, Millie. Through the characterization of Mildred, and his use of figurative language in Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury warns that technology has the ability to hinder independent thoughts and ideas.

A story written by Bradbury leaves readers emotionally connected with the boys who risk their lives due to curiosity and temptation. Ray Bradbury, a Pulitzer Prize winner, is one of the most notable authors of the 20th century. Although he wrote over 30 novels and countless of other writings, his novel, Fahrenheit 451, is his claim to fame. Fahrenheit 451 is a novel about a faux utopia without books. His novel is a critical thinking piece that criticizing censorship. Ray Bradbury’s cultural significance stems from his audacious nerve to simply release his novel.

Many of his ideas influenced the stories of Hollywood. His short story “The Veldt” is similar to that of the movie “Smart house”. His idea of childhood not being completely innocent that he establishes in “The Small Assassin” can be seen in many horror films both past and present. The ‘butterfly effect’ that Bradbury uses in his short story “The Sound of Thunder” was used in the Doctor Who episode “Father’s Day.

In the mid-1900’s, people were introduced to new ideas; they began to imagine the future, to visualize where society was headed. The future seemed impossible, but what Ray Bradbury brought to society was a vision that was all to real. Ray Bradbury was born August 22, 1920. After recieving his high school education, he began to sell newspapers, and spending the majority of his time in a library or writing. Bradbury first published a collection of his works in 1947, paving the way for science fiction novels from then on. Since then, Bradbury has published over 500 works. He inspired others; by sharing his imagination, he was changing the way society thinks. Ray Bradbury saw society heading down a dark path, and tried to warn others of what was to come.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is a novel that takes place in the future. In this futuristic novel, firemen burn down houses instead of saving them. Ray Bradbury also has some other attitudes about life that I think are a little absurd. Although, Ray Bradbury comes through in the end with some strong messages and life lessons, that develop throughout the novel. For example, my favorite message is never lose faith and resist the status quo, no matter what obstacles stand in the way. Despite Ray Bradbury's pessimism, he has a lot of life lessons to teach the readers. Ray Bradbury is pessimistic because in his novel, firemen burn down houses instead of saving them, a girl dies because of being different, and books are outlawed even with everything
