A number of people have played important, deep roles in my life. However, none of them played a more unique role than my great-grandfather Raymond Berkley. He loved me and the rest of the family unconditionally and was willing to do anything for us. However, this is not his most noticeable legacy. Raymond was a unique individual who lived perhaps the most exciting life of any person I have ever known. He was intelligent and incredibly street smart. He also was skilled when it came to getting his way. From an involvement with the Italian mafia to being filled with the Holy Spirit, my grandfather lived a life that came full circle. He proves that, no matter what bad things one does in his or her life, it is impossible to outrun the forgiving grace of God.
Raymond J. Berkley was born in February 1923 in Cleveland Ohio, where he spent his childhood. His mother’s name was Rosemary. She was born and raised

He knew of Jesus Christ existence, having attended church regularly. Despite his less than savory lifestyle, he did believe Jesus Christ was the Son of God. He also acknowledged that he had lived a life of great sin and rebellion. He feared that his destiny laid on the broad path that leads to destruction instead of the narrow path to life. One night, he expressed this fear to my parents and his wife. They conversed for over an hour about the loving and forgiving nature of Christ. This ended with everyone in the room praying for him. He began to cry, and the Holy Spirit fell upon him. Raymond began to speak in tongues as the Spirit filled him. This brought him great peace, as it provided assurance that he was saved and that he would go to Heaven after his death. This moment of Spiritual refreshment was made even powerful because this was his last night on earth. The following morning, he conversed with his wife one last time. Five minutes later, on June 8, 2010, Raymond J. Berkley passed

The house in which he was born had neither running water nor electricity. He had two brothers Eric and Carl Jr. The McNairs were a highly industrious couple who taught their sons by words, examples, and deeds. The three boys were never asked or expected to do more than they witnessed their parents doing to provide for the family.

Langston Hughes short story “Salvation” epitomizes what is an internal struggle for many people, especially children, who want so badly to believe what they have been taught all their lives by their relatives, elders in the church and the preacher; that to have a relationship with God, you must be saved and only then will you be able to see him. Hughes’ Aunt Reed paints such a vivid picture of that idea beginning in the story’s second chapter: “My aunt told me that when you were saved you saw a light, and something happened to you inside! And Jesus came into your life! And God was with you from then on! She said you could see and hear and feel Jesus in your soul.”
I failed him; I failed to take care of him, so he turned to the arms of another to fulfill what I could not do. Despite my love for him and my words to confess and live his life, I try to push them down and advise him to make this decision for only himself. He declares he will confess, and happiness fills my soul and body. Aye it may be different with our neighbors, but we shall only focus on our family. How will they treat us?

Langston Hughes used rhetoric words in his story “Salvation,” to provide foreshadows, and emotional appeals to his struggles in becoming religiously saved. Hughes began his story by stating “I was saved from sin when I was going on thirteen (179).” The irony in this opening is that Hughes initially believed in the presence of Jesus, but unexpected pressures pushed him to betray and deceive his faith. The setting of Hughes struggles took place in a religious ceremony in his Auntie Reed’s church. In this service, many young children like Hughes were gathered to be spiritually cleansed by the light of Jesus.
“Salvation” is a short story by Langston Hughes describing a boy when he discovered a significant truth about faith and religion. The last paragraph of “Salvation” functions as an epiphany for the boy. An epiphany is an experience of sudden and striking realization. It can also mean the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi. This event helps shape the boy’s religious understanding far differently from what his Aunt Reed believes.
This infuriates the older brother who believes he has been a righteous son. His father replies, “Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.” Christ teaches that no matter the sin, those that believe in Him and have true repentance may always return to the
