El Niño means The Little Boy, or Christ Child in Spanish, is a climate cycle in the Pacific Ocean with a global impact on weather patterns. El Niño was originally recognized by fishermen off the coast of South America in the 1600s, with the appearance of unusually warm water in the Pacific Ocean. The name was chosen based on the time of year (around December) during which these warm waters events tended to occur. El Niño refers to the large-scale ocean-atmosphere climate interaction linked to a periodic warming in sea surface temperatures across the central and east-central Equatorial Pacific.
El Niño refers to the periodic warming of the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean that brings sea surface temperatures above average. El Niño conditions, which can last for a year or two, develop concurrently with atmospheric changes leading to a variety of global effects, including drier than normal weather in Indonesia and the Philippines, wetter than normal weather for Peru and Ecuador, a warmer than normal winter for much of the United States and above normal

Typically, El Niños occur more frequently than La Niñas. Each event usually lasts nine to 12 months. They often begin to form in spring, reach peak strength between December and January, and then decay by May of the following year. Their strength can vary considerably between cycles. One of the strongest in recent decades was the El Niño that developed the winter of 1997-98. "Everyone associates the word El Niño with that event, but that was a rare, once-in-a-century event," notes L 'Heureux. El Niño was originally named El Niño de Navidad by Peruvian fishermen in the 1600s. This name was used for the tendency of the phenomenon to arrive around Christmas. Climate records of El Niño go back millions of years, with evidence of the cycle found in ice cores, deep sea muds, coral, caves and tree
Statement of the Problem Among the events that have had a drastic shaping on human events throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries are natural disasters. Often times, a natural disaster will leave residents of affected areas in a state of awe as they seek to understand what exactly happened. One such example is Hurricane Hugo.
However, they play other roles as well. Due to the tilt of the Earth’s axis, some locations get more sunlight than others. Near the equator, sunlight can be seen for majority of the day. The climate ends up being very hot and dry for almost the entire year. The farther north, or south someone goes from the equator, the colder the climate becomes, and the less sunlight someone receives in a day.
Hurricane Juan struck Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2003 creating the most damage in the history of Nova Scotia and killing 8 people and costing about $30 900 000 in damage. In order to prevent as much damage you first need to have a brief understanding of what causes hurricanes and how they work. After you know that you 're able to think of ways to be able to prevent damage and the lose of life. Even thought you can be the most prepared person ever and just waiting for a hurricane to come because you know you 're as ready as ever, most people probably won 't be just sitting and waiting for one to come so what meteorologists do is predict when another is likely to strike.
A hurricane is a storm with a violent wind, in particular a tropical cyclone in the Caribbean. One of the biggest hurricanes that hit the world was Hurricane Ten. Hurricane Ten is the oldest Category 5 hurricane in the official North Atlantic hurricane database, which dates back as far as 1851. The hurricane first struck the Western tip of Cuba with winds of 165 miles per hour causing roughly 90 deaths. Hurricane Ten later struck the United States in South Florida causing minimal damage.
DeekshithKumar Thadishetti Professor mankerian LS 690 July 31 2015 Climate change is one of the global issue that requires multiperspective approach. One of the key cause of climate change is air pollution. Air pollution occurs as a result of release of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. There are two key sources of air pollution that should be targeted if the air pollution is to be reduced. The first source is the industrial stationay sources, which include electric power facilities.
Superstorm Sandy Superstorm Sandy devastated almost all of the eastern seaboard and parts of Cuba. The hurricane started as a normal tropical storm over the warm waters near the equator (Pacific and Atlantic oceans). Then began to spin counterclockwise and form into a hurricane. The hurricane was given a category one rating on October 23, 2012.Even though the hurricane did not touch the Dominican Republic it still dumped twenty inches of rain in Hispaniola. Over fifty people died from flooding and mudslides.
This would lead to conflicts for resources and possible shortages that would harm the population. Finally, the increase in heat waves and droughts would have a huge impact on agriculture and water availability as it will be difficult to produce crop and clean water to meet the demand of the population. This would also lead to shortages of food and water, affecting many
For those Buffalonians who are old enough to remember it, the Blizzard of 1977 is a memory that has been seared into their consciousness. January 28th 1977, began as a normal day for the city of Buffalo, but by twelve noon the wind picked up, snow began to fall, and visibility became dangerously limited. As the wind began to intensify out of the west and sweep across the frozen wasteland of Lake Erie, it carried with it the lightly packed snow that had blanketed the frozen lake. An event of historical proportions was beginning to unfold in rapid time right in front of people’s eyes. Accumulating more and more snow as the wind moved eastward, the wind was carrying so much snow that it created white out conditions in the city and surrounding area.
People may know about climate change and the drastic changes it is having on the environment, but what they may not be aware of is that another degree increase in the world’s average temperature will cause even bigger problems for people all over. Climate change is long term shifts in temperature and patterns in the weather. Greenhouse gasses, gasses that trap heat in the atmosphere causing it to warm up are at an all-time high due to humans and the amount of fossil fuels we use. The most crucial result of climate change is global health, but animal endangerment and the rise in sea levels are also very important effects.
Georgia’s spontaneous climate changes Georgia, as we all know, isn’t the most ideal place to live if you enjoy a constant climate year round. In Georgia you have the luxury of enjoying all four seasons in one twenty- four hour time span. Only a few other places such as Alabama, Tennessee, and other southern states experience these irregular weather patterns. Summer time in Georgia is perhaps the most persistent when it comes to the climate; it’s always hot like an oven when it’s being used to cook cookies for your child’s birthday party. Being outside for just a few minutes will leave you feeling like an obese individual after running a marathon.
Imagine if all of Florida disappeared under the water. Millions of people would need to migrate up to other states, likely causing population issues in some places, and the culprit of the disappearance: Humans. More specifically, climate change caused by humans. Climate change is caused by greenhouse gas emissions, and that makes the atmosphere trap heat from the sun in our atmosphere. This causes the global temperature to slowly increase.
There is water on three sides of the city, so the weather significantly affected by cold ocean currents, which leads to the presence of microclimates in the region. The rainy season lasts from November to March, and it snows very rarely. At the end of the summer and from September to October, the city, especially its western regions, suffers from the fog that cannot fall off during the day. This feature of the San Francisco climate the townspeople were able to turn into a tourist attraction.
Annotated Bibliography: How Climate Change Is Affecting Our Planet Controversy statement: Climate change is been debated for over centuries now. People all around the world are taking action and reducing burning fossils to minimize the gasses in the atmosphere. Many people believe that climate change doesn't exists. But there are a lot of controversial topics that proves that climate change is real. In my opinion, climate change is slowly killing us and destroying our planet.
The Earth is melting, and people need to help. Climate change is a regular thing that happens on Earth, but recently, it has changed drastically. " Since 1880, Earth’s average temperature has increased by about 0.8 degrees Celsius. (BGE) This may not seem like much, but scientists are worried.
The first question “What is Global Warming?” Global warming is the gradual increase of the temperature of earth 's atmosphere and oceans. In simple word, it means the global is hotter and hotter day by day.
