The Significance of Choice in “3 Idiots” 3 Idiots is an Indian movie directed by Rajkumar Hirani in 2009. It received positive reviews that expresses well about reality of education in India. However, not only does it apply to India, it applies throughout the world. This movie shows how it works. It shows how most of the schools always teach students how to get high scores, and how to get best rank. In the movie, Viru likes to align students. Viru applies ranking everywhere. Viru always says “Life is a race, if you don't run fast you'll get trampled.”. For instance, when Viru and students take a picture, students sit by ranking of grade. Rancho sits beside Viru. It means Rancho is number one of the ranking. He thinks it is unfairness, so that he advices to Viru about rankism. However, Viru believes it is good method to array students. Rancho says “It looks like a caste system. Furthermore, opened grade is not fair to students. Why should we open our fault? … Grading is making division. … Raju and Farhan can enter good company. The company wants human more than machine.”. In the film reviewer says, “Learning is not all about rank, high scores, and pressure to achieve high position.” (Senin). Most of education push students to learn so as to get high scores. Sometimes, many people forget what importance of learning is. The important of learning is teacher should help students to understand easily, and students can utilize to suitable situation. If students just focus on getting high marks, they will forget everything what they learn hardly after few years. Thus, improving this ability is important when they encounter the life for the next. Junior sees himself as a poor Indian kid that is trying to change his fate. He decides to go to school off the reservation, to Reardan high school in order to seek a better life. School rankings are important and taken very seriously, especially in public schools. The higher a school ranks; the more advantages it gains. The government provides high ranking schools with funds or subsidies to help obtain new facilities, advanced technology, and more professionally experienced teachers. If students of a specific school do not achieve certain criterion that raises the school’s ranking, then the school will not gain the benefits of funds or subsidies that are provided by the government. To prevent this failure from becoming a reality, teachers will try and “teach to the test”.
