“Adolescence can be defined as a period of transition between childhood and adulthood that involves biological, cognitive, and socio-emotional changes” (Santrock ,1996). Adolescence, the developmental stage between childhood and adulthood, is a crucial period. It is a time of profound changes and, occasionally, turmoil. Considerable biological change occurs as adolescents attain sexual and physical maturity. At the same time, these physiological changes are rivalled by important social, emotional, and cognitive changes that occur as adolescents strive for independence and move toward adulthood (Feldman, 2002).

It is the period of emotional excitement and stress caused by different physical and psychological changes and development of sexual feelings (Muhammed, 2002). A key task of adolescence is preparation for adulthood. Indeed, the future of any culture hinges on how effective this preparation is (Larson & others, 2002).
Adolescence is from about the age of 11 to the late teen years and is a time when children develop adult physical characteristics (Steinberg, 2002).Adolescents are a diverse group; girls, boys, some with disability, some from ethnic groups, some urban and some rural. Yet, nine out of ten of these young people live in the developing world and face especially profound challenges from obtaining an education to simply staying alive – challenges that are magnified for girls and young women ( UNICEF, 2011). It is a time of discovery of self and one’s relationship to the world around him or her (Nzesylva,2008).

The Boys and Girls Club was started in 1860 in Hartford Connecticut by Mary Goodwin, Alice Goodwin, and Elizabeth Hammersley. Originally the club was known as Boys Club of America and their goal was to keep young boys off the streets and provide them with a more influential place to go. However, it wasn’t until 1990 that girls became involved and the club was renamed the Boys and Girls Club (www.bgca.org). Today, the Boys and Girls Club’s mission is to help boys and girls realize what they are capable of and become accomplished citizens. The program also wants children to be aware of their own importance, impact, helpfulness, and ability as individuals (www.bgcsnv.org).
Teenagers in the 1920s Many wonder what teenage life used to look like in the 1920s. Unlike previous generations, young Americans’ average number of years in school were increasing and instead of getting married at sixteen or seventeen, parents were delaying longer before pressuring their children into marriage. In other words, it rapidly became clear that America was entering a new era of life with many new traits. Dating, fashion, and entertainment were influenced by teenagers in the 1920s.

This article has also shown how emerging adulthood stage helps prepare adolescence for better future and help them explore their identity while getting them ready for adulthood. This comes with the disadvantage because some young people can take longer till they fully contribute to society. This is a type of a luxury that can’t be afforded by everyone.

Puberty is accompanied by physical, psychological and emotional changes adapted to ensure reproductive and parenting success. But adolescence is not just marked by physical changes – young people are also experiencing cognitive, social/emotional and interpersonal changes as well. It marks a transition in risks for depression and other common mental disorders, substance abuse, eating disorders and anti social behaviours. As they grow and develop young people are influenced by outside factors, such as their environment, culture, religion, school and the media.
Young people love to have sex. There are many types of sex, with the main type being direct sexual intercourse, where there is penetration using the genitals. The act of having sex is an emotional and private experience to most people. Despite this however, many begin exploring this idea around a young age. Award winning author Mohsin Hamid talks in depth on this topic in his novel “Exit West.”
Adolescence can be described as a period of awareness and self-definition. According to Erikson (1968), it is an important period in the enduring process of identity formation in the life of an individual. The movie ‘The Breakfast Club’, focuses on a group of five adolescents, and their pursuit to find their prospective identity. This essay will focus on the process of identity development in these five adolescents, with particular reference to the character Andrew Clark. In addition, it seeks to highlight the different identity statuses, as well as, the factors that facilitate or hinder identity formation.
In the past seven decades teens have evolved drastically; from medical to technological advancement, their lives are very different to those of teenagers today. All throughout Catcher in the Rye, and experiences in my personal life, there have been a number of things that prove how much we as teenagers have evolved since the 1940s. For example, although it is widely frowned upon and prohibited for children and teenagers to drink alcohol in todays world, teens do it as much if not more than they did in the 1940’s. On page 149, Holden “Kept sitting there getting drunk”, something that is not ok in todays world. Back in the 1940s, it was widely more acceptable to let teenagers drink excessive amounts of alcohol.
What is a teen activist? A teen activist is someone who inspires people to do good in the world. They take a little cause and make it known worldwide. I believe that if we have teen activists in the world, people will want to do good things to help them. If that is true teen activists could make our world a better place.
There are many Teen activists in the world. And they all have a lot in common and a lot they do different. All teen activists have to speak out to spread the word of their claim. For example, Malala Yousafzai chose to go worldwide and got on youtube and tv interviews. Alex Lin however did not he didn’t have as big of a problem so he stayed local in his community and spread the word by mouth in his community.
Adolescence and Emerging Adulthood Human development changes throughout a lifespan and those changes include, physical, cognitive, social, and emotional changes between birth and adulthood. This paper reflects my own personal changes and focuses specifically on the changes concerning both cognitive development and psychosocial development. Cognitive development involves the mental mind and allows for reasoning and the ability to make decisions, based on logic and reason, to take place. Once individuals reach the age to reason, the maturity levels and past experiences shifts to concrete operational thinking.
Despite the fact that identity development occurs throughout one 's lifetime, adolescence is the stage where individuals begin to think and experience a sense of self or identity for the first time and how that could affect their lives (Steinberg, 2008). Identity development in the teen years includes ethnic and cultural identity, gender identity, sexual identity, interpersonal, health, body image, and learning to handle adult responsibilities. While teens are exploring on what makes them distinctive or special, they also have an increased need to fit in into the society. Therefore, identity development can be challenging particularly for teens who feel different from
Social problems include parental guidance, access to government grant, peer pressure, substance abuse, poverty, job marketing and education. Most teenagers do not have enough information on sexuality and contraceptives. Teenagers engaging in unprotected sexual intercourse lead to unwanted teenage pregnancy which is a serious social and health problem. About half of all South African teenagers aged between 15 and 19 reported having had sex. Teenage pregnancy is considered as one major distraction to the success of many girls’ education.
Some teenagers are having sex. Some teenagers start working during this time. Some teenagers later in adolescences start college application and prepare for graduations. I believe that the adolescence stage covers so much and is a huge transition. I decided to talk about several important changes
