For example, one of the studies I conducted in my second doctoral year examined how ESL learners’ previous L1 and L2 (English) learning experience might impact on their current English reading development when studying in the US. The result reveals that their past English learning background closely correlates with their later English reading challenges and development. Another research article that I am writing and planning to submit to a peer-review journal is part of my larger research project examining international graduate students’ academic challenges during their acculturation and the role of technology during the process. This article particularly investigated international graduate students’ reading difficulties and how they coped with the difficulties during their academic acculturation. Data were collected through a self-designed survey, interviews, weekly journals, document collection, and field notes. The finding shows that the participants confronted reading challenges in their early graduate study years, such as not understanding disciplinary terminology and language, having slow reading speed, not grasping main ideas in texts, and not critically reading academic texts. This study suggests providing international students appropriate reading instruction in their early graduate study years so they could cope with their reading difficulties with learned reading

In Mark Bauerlei’s Too Dumb for Complex Text, he points out that a lot of U.S students have difficulty to understand complex texts such as “U.S court decision, an epic poem, [and] an ethical treatise” in today. According to Bauerlein, students are unprepared on the skills and habits to read complex texts. He explained high school does not prepare students to read, analysis, and practice their reading skill, and social media readings will not help at all: “When teachers fill the syllabus with digital texts, having students read and write blogs, wikis, Facebook pages, multimedia assemblages, and the like, they do little to address the primary reason that so many students end up not ready for college-level reading” (Bauerlei). Bauerlei believes
I am writing to apply to become a certified instructor for the UConn Early College Experience (the “UConn ECE”). My background and qualifications make me uniquely qualified to be a certified instructor for the UConn ECE as I have Masters Degrees (CAPITALIZATION???) in both education and Special Education and in addition to my high school teaching experience I also have twenty years’ experience teaching history at Hillyer College at the University of Hartford. I am passionate about history, which I believe is more about the study of historical developments and trends rather than the memorization of dates and facts. My enthusiasm for history is most evident when I am teaching as demonstrated by my highly energized and animated lecture
Reading Between the Lines: Interpreting Fiction with New Eyes Thomas C. Foster’s book, How to Read Literature Like a Professor: For Kids, helps young readers learn to interpret and understand deeper meanings in fictional literature. The book describes essential facets of reading fiction novels. By using Foster’s novel as a guide, readers can see the differences between the literal text and the author’s figurative meanings and agendas. In All of our Demise, by Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Herman, seven families control a natural resource called “high majick”. Each family sends a champion to compete in a tournament to the death in order to claim the magick for one family.
Many students read-only to finish rather than to understand what they have read." Many students have yet to be interested in reading lengthy
I am emailing you today because I would like to interview to be a DSCI 302 teaching assistant for fall 2016. I have completed my online application, and my answer to the additional question is below. I would like to be a TA for this class because I have used the TA 's for both my DSCI 202 and 302 classes as a valuable resource and would like to be able to give back. Throughout both classes I went in and met with the TA 's routinely to insure that I understood the material fully and had the information necessary to be successful in the classes. I know several other people that have done so as well and we are all very grateful for the time they take to help make the material click.

Reading in the early 1900’s, was viewed through the recitation of words. The subject of reading was an area that lacked attention; it was nonexistent and only touched amid English instruction (Sears, 2006). In the early 1910’s a book published by Edmund Bunk Huey titled The Psychology and Pedagogy of Reading, aid in influencing research in the subject of reading. Exploration of reading, additionally led to research in phonics and state standardized testing (Sears, 2006). In addition, World War I sparked attention to the severity of reading comprehension in the homes of Americans.
From an early age I have always had an interest in the legal system, as a child of divorcees the legal system has always had an impact on my life. I have always dreamed about being a family lawyer and have hoped that through hard work and dedication I could make my dream a reality; enter law school, successfully complete the bar exam and utilize my knowledge of the law to help those who may otherwise be left in the cold by the legal system. As I have grown older I have a new understanding of the realities of just how difficult it will be to make my dreams a reality. When writing this application, I had difficulty figuring out what I can say that will set me apart from other candidates. I almost feel as though everything that I will say has been said before and there are most likely some situations that sound more sympathetic than my own.
After completing the research design and analysis requirements for my degree, I sought out additional quantitative methodology courses and research workshops available at the university. Those courses have included such topics as multivariate regression, instrumental variables, regression discontinuity designs, and other quasi-experimental methods. I have also developed skills in cleaning, organizing, and managing large and complex datasets through coursework and independent research. I have worked with data from the Survey of War Affected Youth, the Afrobarometer and Arabarometer, and the World Values Survey, among other sources. Not only have I built a set of technical skills, but I have also developed an understanding of causality that equips me to choose appropriate methods for my research questions, accurately interpret results, and meaningfully communicate findings.
For students, college is something more difficult in the first year because of the preparedness they had in high school. This article by Cara Solomon “ College-prep expectations don’t mesh with realities” is about how students in high school are not meeting college standards based on statistics and your schools classes. For, me I am halfway prepare for college with having college, meetings about college, and learning about the classes. Since freshman year I have had help in some ways to learn about what to expect with college life and my preparedness for it.
Introduction Psychological research and its findings have profound impact on people, relationships, and institutions in our society (Willig, 2013). However, as any other study, psychological researchers are faced with enormous limitations including inappropriate designs or methodologies due inadequacy of professionals (Wang, et al., 2015), geographical differences that impacts on generalizations (Smith, 2015), and time pressure that negatively affects the quality of a research (Punch, et al., 2014). Language barrier and lack of literature or poorly done review are other factors that affect psychological research (Willig, 2013). Limitations Limited number of professionals in the psychological research is one of the key limitations to this field of study. Psychological research depends on observations, experimentation, and evidence, hence the need for critical methodological designs (Shipman, 2014).
The researcher used a document created by Marcia Kalb Knoll, Ed. D., used in her book Administrative Guide to Student Achievement and Higher Test Scores. The Time-On-Task Review log details what every student is participating in during a specific amount of time. The researcher spent approximately 20 minutes in each class room. Two classrooms were observed during the process, Ms. Seasoned taught fourth grade English Language Arts, while Ms. First Year taught third grade English Language Arts.
