1-INTRODUCTION
Literacy is most commonly defined as the ability to read, spell and communicate through written language. However, in a more general sense, literacy is more than just the ability to read or write. It means being able to view, listen, read, comprehend, evaluate, speak, and write effectively and systematically.
This assignment is based on a reading a story and effective ways of helping children with reading. This includes 4 activities after reading the story. Reading fluently is the ability to read quickly, precisely and with the right expression. Fluent readers understand what they read. Most parents and children are so engaged in watching movies, television and adapted to computer games that they find little or no time for reading. Likewise, those who have developed reading as a hobby are mindful of the uncountable advantages linked with it. Reading increases the thinking horizon of a person, improves vocabulary and supports understanding towards people of different cultures.
Current literature is extremely diverse and includes a broad range of areas that prepare children for their future interactions. Well-chosen literature needs to be just as diverse to meet the growing need for digital and multimedia literature. As our society develops, so does our reliance on technology and technology based communication. (n.d.)
