Introduction
The reading habits should be inculcated from young children, the continuity of reading habits is capable of generating an intellectual individual, family and society to civilized country in various aspects. Awareness of the importance of reading among Malaysians in line with Malaysia's literacy development and modernization during the growing modern era with the latest advances in information technology in order to produce individuals with information literacy.
The best approach to build and generate a healthy mental development of individuals is through the practice of continuous reading and not just depending on exam-oriented. A civilization or a civilized nation can only be built and viewed by people who practice the culture of seeking knowledge, irrespective of age and any kind of reference medium.

Many young adults do enjoy reading in their free time. Mostly fiction that relates to their lives, experience and fantasy are the most selected reading material. Reading is how teenagers escape their bodies and enter new worlds, escape their minds and try out other ways of thinking, escape their environments and imagine other ways of being. While elder students such as university students often made book selections based on recommendations from family, friends, and professors, with many students acknowledging their enthusiasm for discussing the books with those who recommended or shared with them.
Teachers and educators have a huge influence on the reading habits of young students. Educators are concerned about the reading and writing habits and attitudes of our preserves teachers and the implications that these habits and attitudes hold for their future practice as teachers and for their future students. Having never taken a college writing course before, I did not know what to expect and therefore assumed that I would choose my own topic to write about; of course, this isn’t the case. However, if I had the choice, I would not have chosen to write a response to Gerald Graff’s “Hidden Intellectualism”. After going through his essay with a fine-tooth comb, I have found a few flaws in his reasoning. Gerald Graff believes that schools and colleges are not taking advantage of “street smarts” by not using them in an intellectual setting when in fact, schools are providing students with a large assortment of other knowledge and skills. Dana Giola believes literature is a crucial part of life, especially for young adults. In her passage “Why Literature Matters” she describes that young Americans' interests have diminished for literature. She persuades her audience using ethos, logos, and cause-and-effect reasoning. Giola starts off her passage by describing the interest young Americans showed in arts which “actually diminished”(Giola 1) because of how they “taught reading comprehension”(Giola 2).
The article “Why Don’t Teens Read For Pleasure Like They Use To?” by Jennifer Ludden, writes about teens not reading as much and why aren’t they reading. Ludden uses logos and people to show the drop-off reading among teens. The author utilize people and data to support the drop-off in reading amidst teens.
Literacy enriches our lives in an outstanding manner. From a young age, we are eager to sit by our parent’s side and listen to bedtime stories. As our love for reading and writing grows, our wealth and thirst for knowledge does as well. The ability to entertain and enlighten our world through literacy is exponential.

In a recent survey by the google. The number of teens who actually read a book in the past year was 52% or more. I am one of those. As I consider my reading experiences, I realize they represent the journey I have to traveled, leading me to my current academic path.
My freshman year continued with much confusion. The only reading that I was doing then was just reading Fanfiction, but those stories are just written by kids like me, with the same english skills as me. I found it extremely entertaining, but nothing about it was making me a better reader. I just needed to read more books that would challenge me. Reading is not my favorite activity.

In “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Readers” by Kavitha Rao, she express her opinion on the topic that the current generation is not reading for fun. She mentions several experience she had with other people, that don 't see the benefit in reading for fun. She says that since people aren 't reading more leisure anymore they 're becoming less creative, inarticulate, have poor communication skills and low confidence, which is caused by parents forcing their kids to read, and the education system need to have students memorize textbooks and nothing else. After reading this article I find myself disagreeing with Rao on several points she made, I don’t believe the modern attitude towards reading is causing people to be self absorbed and unimaginative, she also claims that book clubs don 't encourage reading for fun, parents are forcing their children to read boring books which turned them away from reading and that the educational system is to blame for college students for being inarticulate.
To be successful in life, it is required to know how to read. Reading brings knowledge and knowledge brings intelligence, wisdom, and understanding. People learn from many different forms of literature. One of the most important kind of literature is children's literature. It is responsible for teaching children things like vital knowledge that are required for school and life.

Therefore, the development of skills needed for reading begins at an early age and progresses through stages into adulthood (Chall, 1996). First of all, reading gives you a wonderful opportunity to learn about other cultures and places of interest in the world.
