Indonesia Reading Literacy in PISA
Literacy in general means a person’s ability to read and write. Reading skill is the key of literacy. Once a reading literacy is achieved, a person can gain knowledge, use media and technology as well as to communicate and contribute in their society. Thus, researchers are continuing to improve world reading literacy through The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). PISA was first implemented in 2002. This essay focuses on the definition of reading literacy reading assessment by PISA, Indonesia reading literacy score in PISA and the factors of low PISA reading literacy score of Indonesia.

One of factors that may influence lower reading score is the teacher effective teaching. Meeks (2013) stated that Teacher’s qualifications, knowledge, and methods in teaching reading give a great impact of students’ knowledge; they play the main roles in students’ reading achievements. In fact, Indonesian teacher’s knowledge about reading literacy in PISA is not sufficient, so the content delivery from teacher to students is not maximized. But teacher is not merely to blame. Indonesian poor reading habits have been cornering with low reading literacy achievement. On the report of many researches, Indonesian people do not like reading. They read only when they are given assignment by teachers. Limited access to books and library also affects lack reading interests.
