Reading What the Best College Teachers Do by Ken Bain and how the book develops into comprehending that “Human learning is a complex process” and how professors touched students’ thoughts and impact their lives. In addition, the book structures the distinctive elements that help to define best teaching which are not about of how much students had to remember but how much they came to comprehend. I wanted to enhance my understanding on classroom development and on the summer of 2010 I took EDG 3443 Classroom and Behavior Management at Miami Dade College where I learnt the different strategies for observing, assessing, and modifying behavior, communicating with students, and structuring discipline along with an effective and positive communication. …show more content…
It was a challenge, since I did not have any prior knowledge of the logistics industry; however, I took it as a new opportunity and a learning experience by applying the analytical skills that I had studied. At the end, I was able to encounter a multicultural environment that nourished my understanding of global business interchange and, as a result I developed many relations overseas by interacting with different countries, it helped me learn different policies and cultures, I was also able to explain and advise to customers from around the world by understanding their culture, regarding the export and/or import country’s regulations and procedures. Students on their first year need to feel that they belong and working at FIU since 2013 at the Office of Transfer and Transition Services, Undergraduate Education as an Office Specialist I am able to assist all walk in students by understanding their questions and concerns, and answering all their inquiries by showing them all the opportunities and resources accessible at FIU for them. Also, in fall of 2015 I joined the FIU Mentoring Program which was designed to engage staff and mentees in a substantial relationship
Because of the diversity that exists among our student population, it is important to offer an education that meets those diverse needs. This includes fostering an appreciation for the unique qualities students bring to the school community. Through working collaboratively in the classroom, students grow both academically and emotionally as they achieve project goals. In order to meet student needs, teachers must be prepared with the latest in professional development strategies to differentiate instruction among all learners. It is the responsibility of the district to provide comprehensive professional development and resources equitably to the teaching
Although Harry Wong focuses more on classroom management and not the demographics of the classroom, him and Gary Borich both equally emphasize the importance of a positive and supportive classroom environment for all students. Wong declares,” It is the teacher – what the teacher knows and can do—that makes the difference in the classroom.” (81) Effective teachers provide all students with equal opportunities for learning by utilizing culturally responsive direct instruction, questioning and classroom management. Caring for students and building a nurturing environment that accepts all students and allows them to engage in profound learning experiences are fundamental characteristics of effective
This concept is demonstrated effectively while giving us insight into why the respective authors view the information the way they do. The most influencing of the two I felt was “Developing Responsible and Autonomous Learners: A Key to Motivating Students” I was most inspired by the story about a school observation the author participated in. It was interesting to see her take on differing teaching styles. I found the last teachers concept of class structure to be of great interest.
I am first generation college student. I started Florida Gulf Coast University four years after I migrated from Jamaica along with my Dad, in pursuits of “an opportunity”- something that is very scarce outside of the continental United States. Before coming to FGCU, I went to Miramar High School; I graduated with honors and promised my Dad that within four years I would bring home my bachelors degree in Finance. August 14th, 2013 marked move in day at Florida Gulf Coast University. My first few weeks at Florida Gulf Coast University introduced me to the dreariest days and nights of my life.
The specific learned lessons from last week were also demonstrated in our own classroom environment. Altogether, these are the lessons learned from last week’s written assignments and from the class lessons. Our Class Culture
1. Describe the skills or attributes you believe are necessary to be an outstanding teacher. Being an outstanding teacher goes beyond acquiring the competence and knowledge to deliver rigorous academic instruction to a diverse group of students. Outstanding teachers possess a multitude of qualities making them unique and unforgettable to the children they serve. I believe that outstanding teachers are passionate, inspired, creative, compassionate, patient and understanding.
After listening to the presentations, I agree the most with the lesson presented in presentation one concerning education and learning. One fact that really touched base on the importance of education and learning is how education was administered to the student by allowing the students to learn and apply the material to their lives. As the presentation stated that this type of learning changed after World War I to a type of learning that focused on scientific evaluation that lost focus on building character as well as applying learnings to their daily lives. I believe this to be very true because schools now focus whether a student can memorize the course material with little regard towards how they absorb and applied the material to their
It is imperative that as a teacher one continues to develop professionally in order to keep abreast of the emerging pedagogy in the educational system. This ongoing development will better equip the facilitator with the tools needed in the teaching learning process to adequately prepare students for success. I am elated to have been accepted in one of the most prestigious universities in the world, Walden University. A number of my colleagues are pursuing or have pursued higher learning at this noble institution and have heralded high praises. I am cognizant of the fact that in order to achieve success at Walden University I must be academically, emotionally and practically ready for the challenges ahead.
We forget that they are just people trying to teach us the skills we will need in the future. Mrs. Isbell has taught at Canton High School for 9 years. She has experienced first hand what the students behaviors are like towards educators, and how it affects them. She has a special way of dealing with the attitudes of other students.
The key themes that emerged are Defining and Identifying Effective Instructional and Learning Strategies, Practices, and Techniques; Impact of these strategies on Students’ Academic Achievement; Inclusion versus Exclusive Teaching for Students with Individualized Needs; professional development and preparation; and co-teaching and collaboration . These themes arose in peer reviewed journal articles, studies, and
Abrahamson, an educational specialist, talks about multiple ways in which will increases students’ motivational interest in education. He believes that the most effective way to motivate students beyond the expectations is to make real life personal connections with them. In his article, Abrahamson discusses the use of instructional development for higher education. He states that the classroom context in a student environment needs to generate an atmosphere of inspirational wisdom (2011). He feels that this form of “motivational wisdom” can be originated in part on a relationship-base strategy between the students and professor.
(5.3) Throughout the CMP I have demonstrated an understanding of classroom, school, and community culture that will be implemented into my teaching. I will be creating a positive classroom culture with class meetings, teaching the importance of positive interaction with others, and teaching the importance of students taking responsibility for their actions and learning. I will want my students to have a sense of community inside the classroom. Teaching my students about the importance of acting the same outside of the classroom as they do inside the classroom will create a positive school culture. Theorist, Glasser describes the importance of students taking responsibility for their learning and for their own actions.
Throughout my training, I implemented various strategies for engaging students in small groups and rigorous lessons. My role as a teacher is to communicate effectively, be respectful, and have self-worth and confidence. I did fear making wrong choices throughout this field experience. I set high expectations the students to achieve high goals. Teaching to me opened doors to many students’ lives.
Schools are the second place after home where students’ behavior and future educational success are shaped. At schools there are many elements or factors that can influence the teaching and learning process that may take place. Rasyid (2012) stated that there are four perennial truths that make the teaching and learning process possible to take place in the classroom. If one of these is not available, there will be no teaching and learning process, though the learning process itself may still take place, they are: (1) Teacher, (2) Students, (3) Material and (4) Context of time and place. All of them are related to one another.
According to Malcolm Forbes, “Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one.” Education is the fundamental necessity of life. To get higher quality education is the basic right of every human being on this planet. But achievement of higher education is not possible without studying in college. College is actually a hub of knowledge where most talented and professional lecturers are ready to give you the essence of their expertise and life experiences (Hill, 2018).
