Rachael Martinelli Case Study 8-2: The Outsourced Work 1. Is BE bound by the terms of the project labor agreement, which it did not directly sign, including the duty to submit this labor dispute to final and binding arbitration for resolution? I believe that Bolton Engineering (BE) should not always be bound to the terms of the project labor agreement, that they did not directly sign. Bolton Engineering should only be bound to these conditions if they are working onsite. They did not directly sign the with the labor union so they should only have to follow the labor union when they are working on the premises of Rocket Motor Corporation.

Nowadays, more employers require new workers to sign “Non-Compete Agreements”, in order to prevent insiders from taking consumers’ data, business secrets or newly researched technologies to competing firms when the workers leave. A non-compete agreement is a contract between an employee and employer that confines the ability of workers to involve in business which competes with their current employer. The agreement is most often signed at the beginning of employment. It puts a limit on the employee to not work for a competitor company immediately after leaving their employment with the current company.
In order to determine the whether an outsourcing activities would have a positive or negative impact an evaluation of the activity should be undergone. This evaluation examines the required coordination, strategic control, and intellectual property characteristics of the activity (Chase & Jacobs, 2013, p.444). The required coordination aspect examines the difficulty to complete the activity with limited interaction due to geographical locations. Outsourcing an activity that would result in a large amount of back-and-forth exchange would not be wise to proceed (Chase & Jacobs, 2013, p.444).

A transnational corporation is a very powerful actor with a significant foreign direct investment and physical operations in two or more countries. While these corporations have always existed in the world economy, they have become even larger over the past few decades, leaving many to wonder if they are gaining too much power. As with any powerful entity, people have begun to ponder whether these corporations are villains or heroes in the world economy. Throughout my report I will seek to investigate the pros and cons of operating a contingent workforce. I will look at how it affects the landscape of an organisation and the impacts it has on retaining a competitive advantage. I will also look at whether it is best practice from a Human Resource (HR) point of view and how HR can best manage to retain the knowledge these individuals have and are given while working with an organisation. A contingent workforce can be defined as ‘Is a provisional group of workers who work for an organization on a non-permanent basis, also known as freelancers, independent professionals, temporary contract workers, independent contractors or consultants.’

The subject of sweatshop and child labor is one of great controversy. The first thought to mind when speaking of sweatshops is probably a vision of sketchy factories in far off Third World countries such as Bangladesh or China working their employees 15+ hours a day in cramped up in a dust-filled space for little wages. Not in America though, right? Most Americans would be horribly upset if they found out they had been unknowingly supporting a business that uses sweatshops to produce its merchandise. Odds are though, businesses that exploit such labor are being supported in every shopping trip a person takes whether it be shopping for groceries, clothes, jewelry, or athletic gear.
Making a good business decision doesn’t always mean it is the best possible decision. Economic benefit is not the most important thing. We need to hold everyone else’s wellbeing and the state of our planet in high regard. We need to be concerned with the activities that are taking place to accomplish the outcome we are seeking. Outsourcing may be a smart economic decision, but we need to investigate it.
Outsourcing is one of the numerous resultants of globalization. This demonstrates to be cheaper for them as there is a tremendous money distinction between the two nations. Numerous times, companies get to total their work in fair half the cost of what they utilized to pay already.

The main one is money, as it saves a considerable amount of money in a competitive market and difficult economic climate. However, many managers are questioning whether it is an ideal way to do business and whether remote working or the traditional office structure produces better results and profits. Much of it comes down to personal preference as to how each individual prefers to work, but taking the IT industry as an example, many have found that they are actually much more productive and turn in better quality work from home rather than the office. Here are just a few ways that IT professionals, and indeed people of any profession, have improved their
