Explain the benefits of food additives.
In theory, additives are supposed to be safe. However, they can provoke allergic reactions in some children. Foods which contain the highest amounts of additives are sweets, savoury snacks, desserts and snack bars. Some of the most common additives in foods which you should look out for on labels are:
Colourings: Tartrazine (E102) Sunset Yellow (E110) Carmoisine (E122) Ponceau 4R (E124)
Preservatives: Sodium Benzoate (E221)
Non-nutrient foods
We now know that the body requires nutrients which provide the body with energy and which help us to grow. It is also important we need to consume some food and drinks

Alcohol is a toxin and acts as a depressant. Alcohol contains high quantities of sugar and is absorbed into the bloodstream from the stomach and the small intestine and then sent around the body. Alcohol is carried to the brain through the blood. Too much alcohol can impair judgment and affect coordination.
Flavours and Colours – most foods have colours and flavours added to them in an attempt to make them look and taste better. All food colourings and flavourings have to go through an approval process to ensure that they are safe to use in the European Union and they will carry a letter ’E’ along with a number. Although approved, many ‘E’ numbers have been linked to various problems in children such as hyperactivity and asthma.

Additives are substances added to food during manufacturing and packaging process to enhance their shelf life, texture, colour and taste. We are told that additives are harmful to our health. But there are some advantages of food additives.
Although there may be a few ill effects of additives and preservatives in food, they increase the shelf life and help keep the flavour, colour and texture. They also help conserve or extend the nutritional worth of
Artificial dyes are found in a majority of processed foods in America. Most synthetic dyes are made of, or are based off of petroleum, a crude oil. Since these dyes are mainly petroleum based they have serious health risks on people, especially those diagnosed with ADHD, (Attention deficit/hyperactive disorder.) Because of these potential dangers, laws dating back to the 19th century have been passed, banning the addition of dyes and other harmful substances to foods. Through the years there have been many debates, laws and protests against food dyes and their effects on humans and animals.
Unit 5 Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care P4 Explain the physiology of two named body systems in relation to energy metabolism in the body The two body systems selected in relation to energy metabolism in the body are the digestive system and cardiovascular system. The digestive system breaks down foods and the cardiovascular system enables absorption and usage of the food. The term energy metabolism in the body relates to chemical reactions that that maintain cells and organisms. It is divided into two categories: catabolism is the breakdown of molecules to obtain energy and anabolism the synthesis of all compounds needed by the cells.
Majority of food manufacturers use a whole lot of chemicals and artificial ingredients in high amounts to achieve the desired taste, texture and shelf life. However, in the long run extensive consumption of products that contain such ingredients can have adverse affect on human health. This is one of the reasons why health conscious consumers avoid processed food and look for healthy recipes that use natural ingredients and which are also easy to cook, thus giving them the satisfaction of eating healthy food. What Is That Makes HFCS Bad? According to research ninety percent of the corn produced in US is genetically modified, and this is the same corn that goes into the making of high fructose corn syrup which is an artificial sweetener.
Alcohol could cause the perpetual brain damage in young people and affects the way their brains work. Alcohol can poison the brain due to it is a neurotoxin itself. The brain hasn 't finished developing at
The essay repeatedly states that we do not know what our food goes through, where it comes from, and that we are ignorant to the food industry. Berry says, “The consumer must be kept from discovering that in the food industry, the overriding concerns are not quality and health, but volume and price.” In basic terms, the food industry does not care about the health of their consumers but their profit. The essay also repeats questions that the reader should ask themselves, such as, How fresh is it? How pure or clean is it, how free of dangerous chemicals?
One major thing is Alcohol poisoning from a hard night of drinking can cause you to overdose on alcohol and basically die.. Binge drinkers are one of the majorities that are affected from alcohol poisoning. Binge drinkers take in an excessive amount of alcohol in a short period of time and then maybe wait for a month and do it again in one night. Excessive drinking from teens can suffer from blackouts and cause them to forget things very easily. Teens that do regularly drink hardcore are shown to have bad testing scores in school and perform bad in school in general.
With that being said, most restaurants and grocery stores are declining industrialized foods, giving the name, “food-like substances.” Freedman feels that it is not a realistic way to stop this obesity epidemic by trying to persuade people into completely changing their habits of eating. Instead, Freedman believes that incorporating better ingredients in processed foods will

If if we 're to change one thing in my community I would change the school lunches because they need to be healthier and taste awful. At the onset, the lunches should not have processed foods because they are full of chemicals that can harm the body. Some of the most popular chemicals are: Sodium Benzoate, Butylated hydroxide, and Butlate hydroxytoluene, canthaxanthin, olestra, high fructose corn syrup, mono sodium Glut amate, partially hydrogenated oils, Potassium bromate, and sodium nitrate. Sodium Benzoate is a chemical combined with sodium hydroxide and benzoin acid. Butylated hydroxanisole keeps the oils in the foods from oxidizing.
Food is required in order to live as well as maintain a healthy lifestyle. Potassium, fiber, fat, calories, sodium, along with a bunch of vitamins are required for human body. Calories give us vitality to move around and do our day to day work. From past food industry in United States has grown so much.
Processed includes chemically processed, refined ingredients, and artificial substances. They have many artificial ingredients with many to zero real food. Using preservatives manufactures can stop spoiling, colorants to make desirable, with flavor and text rants. The production and consumption of processed foods and the artificial ingredients has lead to numerous health related problems in today’s society, including low nutritional intake, over consumption, obesity and illness. II.
In addition to other additives, natural flavors and colors can mean that it is not natural. a. Could mean ground up bugs b. Certain dyes lead to hyper activity in children c. The more coloring, the more the food is junk IV. Over many years, our society’s reliance and addiction to processed foods has been growing rapidly for a variety of
Teens and drinking have been an issue for some time and it continues to persist, attracting many young individuals. Keep in mind that processed foods can contain dozens of additional chemicals that aren’t even listed on the label. For example, “artificial flavor” is a proprietary blend. Manufacturers don’t have to disclose exactly what it means and it is usually a combination of chemicals. For this reason, if you see “artificial flavor” on an ingredients list, it could mean that there are 10 or more additional chemicals that are blended in to give a specific
