Research strongly indicates that transitional housing reduces the recidivism rates of parolees. Housing for many released inmates is very difficult to obtain for a variety of reasons, including prohibitions against people with drug convictions living in federally subsidized public housing. The state department of corrections has decided to rent a multiple-dwelling unit in a low-income area and to allow 200 inmates to live there six months following their release from prison. People in the neighborhood complain that this parole housing unit will increase crime in an already trouble area, will endanger local children, and will place an undue burden on local police and social service. So now the question is do you open the parole transitional …show more content…

However, with the local residents wish of not having them in the area do to the fact that crime is already high and with the parole transitional housing unit it would on get higher. So to prevent the raise of crime as well as to help lower the crime that the neighborhood already faces. I would but a police headquarters inside the parole transitional housing unit, therefore not only do you have someone to watch the release inmates very closely you also have more police in the neighborhood patrolling daily which could possibly lower the crime rate in this area. I would also still hire the security to keep order in maintain ordnance inside the parole transitional housing unit. In conclusion, I would still build the parole transitional housing unit in the same neighborhood, but there will be a police headquarters inside the parole transitional housing unit. This will help keep an eye on the released inmates as well as help with the crime issues that the neighborhood already faces. I think this will help the inmates transition back into the real world much easier by being in this neighborhood because they will be face with a lot of problem and the fact that you stay in a police headquarters there will be a lot of things you can’t do and will not do so the decision that I have made will be good for both
