Recycling is a matter of life and death. By dumping our trash in the ocean we are killing the natural inhabitants. Recycling is not exactly difficult or impossible. Some people recycle because they believe it is fun. Recycling makes a huge differance for good, why not join the cause. Most of our manmade waste gets dumped far out into the ocean. This trash and debris floats around and injures animals like sea turtles, dolphins, and sharks. Sometimes this trash even goes as far as to kill these animals. This is all very preventable, and recycling is just the start. Everyone that recycles helps to prevent innocent deaths like these. For instance they could keep food from spoiling by storing it in an icebox. These were often made of wood and lined with metal, which helped to keep the ice from melting. In order to get ice delivered, the customer had to notify the iceman who delivered it in a wagon pulled by a horse. He came by the homes and businesses of those people, with an icebox. The ice is cut into different sizes ranging from one to fifty pounds. The customer was given a card which was placed in the window. It told the ice man how much to leave. The cards were divided into halfs and were printed on both sides. When it was turned in one direction you were perhaps ordering five pounds, but when turned upside down, the card might show that you wanted ten pounds. The iceman would pick up the block of ice using tongs and bring it inside, to be placed in the icebox. The cool temperature that spread throughout the whole box would keep the food cool. To the people of this day and time, the modern age had come since they no longer have to put there perishable foods down the well or eat as much as they could hold to keep from wasting precious
